According to CBC Newsworld (Canada's answer to CNN) the New Jersey
Devils have asked the league to allow them to change colours next
year swapping green for black... Doesn't that conflict with the
colours of the Senators? Just what are the official colours of
the Senators ?

I guess Minnesota No-Stars and now New Jersey (or should it be
new jerseys... ;-) ) like the Kings-ian look in black...

As as aside, its great to see some discussion about the Leafs
finally... I do think that they sould dock Fuhr, say $500 every
time somebody scores thru his legs, he's been brutal that way
all year. I would take Fuhr over Roy in a money game any day...

The Hartford Whalers are also doing away with their green next season(?) in
favour of, I believe, black. Sports merchandise with the colour black appeals
to street hoodlums.

It will be blue, not black. Also, Glenn, say the word: Gangs. In
Canada you have street hoodlums, but in the US, we have gangs. (The big
hockey gang related merchandise here in Cleveland is anything by the
Kings and then the picture gets hazy. Chicago is well represented.
Then even the Sabres, and the Sharks.

The Whalers will be going to BLUE, not black. And they will still have a
bit of green in their jerseys.

No hoodlums in Hartford, I guess.

The Devils' colors change to red, white, and black has been approved by
the NHL.
The new sweaters haven't been released yet. I would assume that the
"home" sweaters will just substitute black where it's green now. It is
unknown whether or not the new "road" sweaters will be based on red or
black. The pants are going to be black. The "NJ" logo will remain
unchanged, except that the green trim will be changed to black.

Hartford's colors will be blue and silver (with some green).
I guess more teams want to cash in on new souvenir sales. And if
anyone needs $$$, I suppose it's Hartford.

Well, if the Devils replace their green with black, their road uniform
will
still have red as the base, with the back being trim. The Senators have
black with red trim (a nice looking jersey, from what I saw). Seems that
black is becoming a very popular road jersey base, probably because
more merchandise can be sold if black is present.

So hmmm....teams with black based road jerseys:
Pittsburgh, Boston, Ottawa, Tampa Bay, LA Kings, Minnesota, Vancouver

red:
New Jersey, Montreal, Chicago, Calgary, Washington, Detroit

dark blues:
NY Rangers, NY Islanders, Winnipeg, Toronto, St. Louis, Edmonton,
Buffalo

lighter blues:
San Jose, Quebec, Hartford (next year, blue and silver like the Dallas
Cowboys, they're axing the green)

Orange:
Philadelphia

Looks like Green is all but gone as a jersey color!

I can't believe this! The ONLY thing I like about the Devils are:

1. Gary Thorne - the best pipes in the biz since Dan Kelly (R.I.P.)

2. Those wonderful ORIGINAL colors! I'd like to applaud whomever had
the good taste and balls to pick them. The logo is nice, too. What
other side, in ANY sport, has that color combination? To change
that unusual shade of green to black is proof that mediocracy will
ultimately win out every time!

And, well, OK, the Devils are kinda fun to watch play 'ockey, too. Now,
anybody want to reminisce about Dan Kelly?

Actually, I'll agree here that the green in the NJ logo should stay
even if they go to black pants and/or substitute black for green in
other parts of the uniform, to the point of having black road colours.
The North Stars sacrificed too much by obliterating their N* logo, as
it looked good on the shoulders of their home whites even with the new
logo looking better on the chest (but a little ugly on the road blacks).

Maybe the Devils' popularity will gorw with the new colours, albiet on
the backs of the Albanian Bad Boyz of the Bronx, etc.

Does anybody else think that the black uniform craze is getting carried
away? First L.A. made the big change, then the Sharks included black in
their color scheme. The North Stars now are mostly black, and both of
next year's new teams use black. The Lightning are blue, silver and black
and the Senators are black, red and white. If the Devils change, six teams
will have jumped on the bandwagon.

So when street gangs decide black isn't stylish anymore, are teams going to
switch colors again?

I couldn't agree more - the New Jersey Devils New Jerseys (:-)) cannot
possibly be as nice and original as the existing ones are.

I got so used to the Flyers 'casters Clement/Emrick calling them
"The Christmas Trees", when they came to visit the Spectrum. Especially
since as of late they had to say that with a great deal of respect, since
the Flyers had to get used to losing to the Devils.

Just what we need - more black gangware...

Well, I'd love to, Gary, but right now it looks like I'll never make it
to a Devils game again! Why? 'Cause I'm moving to: Florida!

Yes, of all places, Boca Raton, Florida. I can only hope, that Sports-
channel Florida will show a decent number of hockey-games, otherwise I
will go nuts (any info, Tom?). And if they show some, I hope it won't be
only the Lightning games - no fun watching an expansion team being beaten
for years to come.

To be fair, the black, red and white colour combination has been used
by Ottawa sports teams for a long time now. The CFL team and the OHL
junior team both wear these colours. Weren't these the colours of the old
Ottawa Senators too?

First the Pens jumped on the 'wagon - heck they even copied the
Bruins color scheme! Then the Kings and....

All just Bruin-wannabe's! 8^)
