I'm scratching my head over this one. I can understand that the St.
Louis Sutters would like to get their bro' to come over, and giving up
Dan Quinn to get him puts them at slight disfavour as it is, but the
big imbalance is giving away Rod Brind'Amour. The sum of each side of
the deal puts it handily in the Flyers' favour!
What's the word out of Phillie and out of St. Loo? I realize that Rod
Brind'Amour wouldn't be feeling so hot since his name came up in the
Shanahan-Stevens affair, but was it necessary to do it so soon?

As a Flyers fan, I see it as something of a mixed bag. Although overall the
deal is unquestionably favourable to Philadelphia.
Sutter wasn't producing here. The arrival of Kasper from L.A. meant that we
had more aging centres who can't score than we needed. Brind'Amour has the
speed and scoring (and youth) the Flyers need.
But the loss of Baron should not be overlooked. He's a great young
defenceman, tough and reliable, and his scoring picked up considerably towards
the end of last season. Further, he beat the crap out of Iafrate in a Caps
game last year, showing that he can mix it up when needed. He's on his way
to becoming a great player, and the Flyers will miss him. Personally, I would
have rather seen them send Fenvyes or Samuelsson.
