What? Where did you figure it was an armadillo, and since when
did armadillos have wings? A bee is painted on the back of his mask,
taken from his old Rangers' goalie mask (which IMO was one of the best
goalie mask designs ever) and it probably is derived from his name when
the fans yell out "Beez" or "Beezer"..

It may be armadilla, The little yellow armadillo on a goalie mask is a
trade mark of the maker, who's name I can't remember, I beleive that he
is in California.

Former Kings Goalie. now with the Devils, Kelly Hrudey also uses an
Armadilla. Besides the yellow armadillo they are rather easy to spot by
their unique shape, are much more spherical than other mask.

As for Johny V's nickname, the only thing I've heard is "Brezzer".

Actually... the answer is:

Yes there is an Armadillo on the back... because the mask is made by
DON STRAUSS, in Waterloo Ontario Canada. Don's company is called
ARMADILLA MASK INC.

I dont have his card handy, so I dont know if I spelled his name and
company name correctly.

Other masks used by NHL goalies include:

ITECH (made by WRIGHT DESIGNES) this masks isnt the same one you will
find in stores... I paid about 1000.00 Canadian for mine.

Greg Harrison Masks (Made in Toronto, very popular 5 years ago, this
mask starts at about $1400 Canadian)

Ed Cubberly (Look for the masks with the "C" in the ear) This is a
great mask, probably now the 2nd most popular mask in the NHL next to
the ITECH.

WARWICK MASK (This guy makes Ed Belfour's) Havent seen this unit in
person, but if Ed uses it, it will be very good.

And a few other small companies produce masks, but Itech, Harrison and
Cubberly are the most popular amongst pros...
