Any truth to the rumor that Chinese made pucks are more apt to break the
glass
above the boards? A friend of mine plays in a league with refs that make
sure
that the game pucks are Czech made cause of this problem.

According to many sources, Chinese made hockey pucks have been know to
break glass, indent the boards, and simple shatter into several pieces
after being shot. They are apparently quite dangerous, and several Kids
leagues in Winnipeg have banned them. I have also heard that some Czech
made problems are prone to doing the same thing. In fact, I have broken
three czech made pucks in the last 3 years, on fairly week shots that
have hit the post or cross bar.

What do the Chinese know about hockey :). Ping Pong balls on the other
hand...:)

BTW, I am Chinese and big hockey fan...until the lockout :(

The league I used to ref for only allowed Canadian made pucks. It was
discovered that not only do Chinese made pucks shatter more often on
impact, they also contain tiny metal filings for some unknown reason.

With regard to the question as to whether the Chinese pucks contain little
metal filings, I believe this is because their pucks may be made of
recycled tires (and radial tires do contain metal in them).

I've been to a rink in Winnipeg that banned Canadian pucks made by the In
Glass Co. It seems their glass shattered several times and they kept
finding these pucks as the culprits...
