Tomas Holmstrom was drafted by the Detoit Red Wings with their 9th pick in the 1994 entry draft. He was the 257th pick overall.

Then you Wings-fans should send a good thought to the guy who drafted him,
because at 257th overall, he is a STEALE!

He is a big player with a style just like his former teammate Mikael
Renberg. He also seems to have a extremely high pain resistance level. It愀
only a matter of time before he is playing for Detroit.

As a Swede and a big Red Wing fan I was delighted to hear that Holmstrom
was drafted by Detroit. You have to give the Detroit scouts credit. The way
I see it there's no way that Holmstrom could fail to be a good NHL player.

He is the player most NHL coaches are looking for. He's big and strong and
never gives up on a puck. He fights his heart out for his team. He can go to
the net and score and dig out pucks in the corners to set up goals. Also,
he is an excellent player to have in front of the goal on powerplays as he
seems to be able to take _a lot_ of beating. Those of us who saw the Sweden
vs. Russia game (the one in Scandinavium) know what I mean. What he faced
in front of that goal was some of the worst I've ever seen. He probably
took about 10-15 slashes and crosschecks in half a minute...

Cheers,
