Thanks for the information. I have a couple of questions about this league.

1. What's the difference between the protected list and draft list?

2. What are the chances of some of the NHL or near-NHL players actually
playing in this league?

3. How much do these guys get paid for this league?

Any information would be appreciated.

In February, I attended the CSGA sporting goods show here in Montreal.
While all sports are represented, the show is considered the premiere
"buying" event for hockey skate and equipment - all of the major
North American sporting good chains and buying groups attend.

So bloody what?

While there, I bumped into ex-Canuck Jocelyn Guevremont...he's one of
the guys behind Roller Hockey Intl, the roller hockey league that seems
to have emerged from the plethora of start-ups...in other words, they
seem to have the most legitimacy. Fortunately for the world at large,
RHI absorbed the Disney league into its ranks. In other words, we
probably will not be subjected to anymore of the lame garbage...no joke,
the first time I saw the Disney stuff, I thought that Ron Duguay had
joined the Ice Capades.

Fortunately for hockey fans, the rules in the RHI are similar to the
NHL's, including the use of "contact".

As far as the puck goes, Koho, I believe, has designed a high speed
"puck" - I have no idea how it performs, but it looks real fancy-like.

-----

While we're on the topic, lots of things went down at the
show...there are some interesting trends emerging in equipment design.

One notable trend has been the development of composite-based hockey
sticks...similar to the evolution of tennis rackets and golf clubs. The
difference is that it is not entirely clear that the sticks, in their
current form, will achieve wide-scale adoption, as the "feel" does not
emulate wood to the extent that the players would like.

What IS entirely clear is that some of these composites come with a
hefty price tag. The highest-priced baby among these? The Sher-Wood
Busch 2000 - approx retail price US$150...

Hmmm...let's see.. I could get two sticks or a new pair of Bauer
Supremes...for the same price...

C'mon boys, wake up and the smell the Zamboni...

Gotta work, James

Weren't the Toronto Planets in this league ? They're not on your list,
do you know their status ?

: Vancouver VooDoo

Does anyone know if Charbonneau is going to go back to roller hockey
for the summer ? His Canucks contract may prevent this - risk of
injury and all.

: Ryan Harrison Cory Hirsch Kevin Hodson Steve Jacques

Seriously ? THAT Corey Hirsch ? Is he planning on playing ?

Roller hockey - providing you with your hockey fix during the
two weeks the NHL takes off each year. :-)

Well, if these lists are true, the chances are 1 in 1. Joe Charbonneau,
a member of the Western Conference Finalist :) Vancouver Canucks, started
out playing roller hockey, and is on the list of the Vancouver VooDoo.

The puck that the RHI uses is the Jofa Speedpuck. It's not the
same puck that Disney used for ESPN. In fact, the surface in most of the
RHI arenas (The Pond included) is not the same either. ESPN's crap used
that blue "Sport Court" surface, which is slicker. I believe it's the same
as the surface at Stuart's Rollerworld (for those of you in Southern
California). Anyway, street pucks will never glide the same as an ice puck,
just because of the way an ice puck uses friction to create that tiny layer
water between the puck and ice to keep the puck down and create a near
resistance free glide. In roller hockey, the puck is elevated off the
surface by six pads, which allow the puck to slide with minimal resistance
and still a lot of balance.

For those of us who play pick-up street hockey, or in a roller league, the
puck the IHL uses is one of the most available, and most widely used,
for our purposes. There is a few other pucks seen out there, like the
MACH-I, which is very similar to the Jofa Speed Puck (just a little bit
bigger diameter, and maybe heavier by a half ounce), The Arrow puck, which
has a band of rubber around the outside "to simulate real puck feel" (I
find this puck to be a piece of crap), and a couple others that I just
plain refuse to use.

The IHL puck is red, the Mach I comes in many colors (including black,
which isn't much good for us street players :) ).

I hope my long-winded puck insight helps!
