The next thing that they'll do is make the puck big and round, paint it
orange, and call it a "buck." Then they'll take away the now five players'
sticks and gloves, and allow them to bounce the buck up the ice to deposit
it in what will now be called a basket, but only as long as they take one
stride per bounce.
After that, they'll take away the players skates, remove the ice, shorten
the surface, elevate the basket, and rename the "buck" the "ball."
Sigh. Is there any hope?

Ligneous and petrous projectiles can potentially fracture my osseous

I haven't heard this before but I'll take your word for it...

I'd say that four minutes is not enough to resurface the ice. Sure it
may only take two zambonis this long to make their rounds but you have
to give the flooded ice another couple of more minutes to solidify
before it is in game condition.
>Reasoning for the change is that NHL games are just too long and although
Ridiculous. A 20 minute half time and two 4+ minute quarter breaks won't
shorten the game any more than the current format.
>it has not been said outright, it's more like the NBA (12-min. quarters)

Agreed. Fine as long as the total amount of game stays at 60 minutes.
Playing quarters may require a change in player conditioning and might
allow the star players to get more ice time (akin to how Scotty took
advantage of the TV breaks to get Mario more ice time). However the
argument of shortening the duration of games doesn't hold and if I
didn't know any better I'd say someone is pulling your leg.

That's funny. Many decades ago when I was a lad playing the game I
recall my coach calling the net a basket--"Put the biscuit in the
basket" he would say. Say, are you in favour of the division and
conference name changes?

It's only been one day without hockey and already we're getting
paranoid. How about some playoffs to temporarily ease the pain!-)
The new format may consist of 15 minute quarters with a 20 minute halftime.
A 4 minute (approx.) break will take place between the 1st and 2nd quarters
and between the 3rd and 4th quarters allowing the ice to be flooded. This
format is is in its very early stages and the times given may change.
Reasoning for the change is that NHL games are just too long and although
it has not been said outright, it's more like the NBA (12-min. quarters)
and the NFL (15-min. quarters) format.
I personally don't feel a change is necessary but am not as against the
15-minute quarters, as the shootout. This new format is in its preliminary
stages and experiments may take place in exhibition games and in the minor
leagues in the near future.
Stumbling blocks for this new format may include network TV, the concession
people of NHL arenas, and others.

Anybody have an opinion on the 15-minute quarter format?
Kamal Rehman.
15 Minute Quarters in the NHL?
No!
>Reasoning for the change is that NHL games are just too long and although
That's a lie. The average length of NHL games has decreased compared to
6-7 years ago.
