Here's a question for someone with a Gretzky stats book or a great memory:
How many goals did he get in pee-wee? Someone quoted the figure of 375 to me.
Is this right? Please include information about how many games he played and
whether the total is for one or two seasons and how old he was in pee-wee. I
think he must have been at least a couple of years younger than the other
players.
A friend has been arguing that this figure can't be right because the
average pee-wee player gets about 20 games in a year and since he proabably only
played one year in pee-wee then he would have had to average 19 goals a game.
No doubt this is physically possible for Wayne, but wouldn't his coach or dad or
he himself tell him to let up after say 18...or wouldn't a guy scoring this many
be instantly promoted to the next level. Maybe he was too small for the next
level? Any insight into this would also be appreciated.
Just wondering.

In "Wayne Gretzky" by Romain and Duplacey says that at age 10, Wayne had
378 goals for the Nadrofsky Steelers in an 85 game season. He broke the
record by a 238 goals.
Best wishes,

Tell that to Gordie Howe! He seems to think that every goal you
get your whole life count as NHL goals!

I haven't got my record book with me, so this is all off the top of my noodle.
He did score about that many in approx. 50(?) games for the Brantford Pee-Wee
Allstars. He was 11. Same age as everyone else. The book that I have (NHL 75th
Anniversary) has a list of all the games and goals he scored. It is, in one
word, unfucking believable. I'll try and post specifics tomorrow.
