What the heck is wrong with the Leafs? I'll tell you what - they have not
played with heart and desire that shows that they are trying to win for the
past two seasons. They don't seem to be out on the ice looking like a team
hungry for two points. You don't lose 6-1 if you are hungry for two
points.

Potvin has not played that well lately either, but I do not blame him. As
a goalie, I don't mind playing for a team that sucks as long as they are
out on the ice playing hard and competing. When you are the only one out
there playing hard, it hardly becomes worth it. Goaltending is a solitary
position as it is, but you need to know your team is at least with you -
you have a job to do, and the rest of the team has to do its job as well.

I just hope that Toronto does not end up like the New York Islanders,
though at least the Isles won 4 cups before going down the drain (and
managed to stay competitive for a bit). With the way Fletcher has
dismantled the team and left it in a mess - without even a farm system of
solid players - we're in trouble. You don't necessarily have to have
talent out there, but you do need heart and soul. An inexperienced, but
courageous and hardworking young team would be great to watch even if they
lose. A bunch of veterans who have shown little promise the past two
seasons are not.

TEAM BUT WHEN YOU HAVE HEART THINGS CHANGE. JUST LOOK AT THE FLORIDA
PANTHERS. THEY PLAY WITH PASSION. THE LEAF'S CAN WIN BUT ONLY IF THE
PLAYERS BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES THAT THEY CAN BE WINNERS.

The Leafs just don't care. Here's the proof: A guy I know has a friend
who is buddies with Dave Ellett, through golfing. They ran into Ellett,
Gilmour, Sundin, Kypreos, Convery, and Martin at RPM, a Toronto club. The
evening
in question was after the Leafs recently lost to Edmonton. Ellett asked
them if they were at the game. They said yes, and Ellett goes, "Yep,
shoulda won that won ... ha ha ha! Hey ... see that broad over there?
I'm gonna slam her. When I'm done with that one, I'm gonna slam that one
over there."

If the rest of the Leafs care as little as Ellett does, all you Leaf fans
might as well pack it in and realize them for the overrated bunch of ham
n' eggers that they always have been.

I'm a leafs fan myself, but I live in Virginia so I don't get
to see them at all. This year it looks as if that's working in
my favor. I've seen highlights (lowlights?) from several of the
games, and they are pathetic. From what I've seen, Potvin is
the only reason they're not losing 15-0 every night. All the
clips that I see involve one or two opposing players standing
in front of the net using Potvin for target practice. Even bad
defensemen manage to hit people after they get off two or three
shots. The Leafs are nowhere to be found, even after Potvin has
made 3 or 4 saves.

From where I'm sitting, it looks like the Raptors are closer to
a championship than the Leafs are. At least the Raptors have
hope for the future.

tosh.

Oh gee, really? Wow it's so great to have someone on this newsgroup who
has personal knowledge of the players. Please continue to post this
valuable information for us.

the Leafs don't care??
the mere fact that most of the aging Leafs suit up for each game, instead
of retiring, is enough to prove "they care"!

the Leafs simply lack the youthfulness and energy to compete at a
competitive level. you can use 'lack of heart & desire' as an excuse
only so far.. eventually it will sink in that this team is too
old. you may point to Sundin, Convery, Warriner, etc. but none of them
have yet to assume a leadership role.

you can only ride a horse so long, before you haveto put it out to
pasture.

Even the Brownian motion that the Leaf defence seems to imitate
would suggest that a body in white-'n-blue would occasionally hit an
opposing player; not the case, however.

You're probably right.

You call this "proof"? You know a guy who knows another guy who claims to
play golf with Dave Ellet? And they overheard him say blah blah blah...

Yeah, well, I know someone who is from Kingston. She works with someone
who knows someone who once ate at Gilmour's restaurant...and he says you
are full of it.

PThis is a joke. There is no way to vrify the story, so any idiot who
wants to can post garbage. The Leafs are dreadful, but I think Dave
Ellet is not solely responsible..for you to single him out with this
most likely bogus story is disgusting.
