On Saturday, August 9, the field hockey competition at the AAU Junior
Olympics concluded in Charlotte, North Carolina. The eight teams,
consisting of the top under-16 players from the United States Field
Hockey Association's national development program, played their final
match on the excellent grass pitch on the University of North
Carolina at Charlotte campus. Both the Gold medal and Bronze medal
were awarded after deadlocked regulation play necessitated penalty
strokes. Although the players were divided evenly to each team by
geographical region, the members of the US Ladie's under-16 team were
represented on each team, and had an opportunity to experience a
tournament run under most FIH regulations. Those ladies are:
Katie Zacarian GK
Christina Kirkaldy GK
Jennifer Peyser
Kate McDavitt
Tess Belmont
Katie Jo Gerfen
Jenna Walsh
April Fronzoni
Janelle Perlis
Lindsey Domers
Katie Nicholson
Alison Stewart
Katherine Knutson
Kelsey Keeran
Kristi Gannon
Also on the under-16 team, but unable to participate this past week,
is Cheryl Feely.
The gold medal team was coached by Karen Marley, who will travel to
South Korea with the US Women's Junior World Cup team later this
month. Assisting her will be Dee Pasternak.
The silver medal team was coached by Terry Martin, who managed the
US under-18 men's squad in Vancouver earlier this year.
The bronze medal team was coached by Martin Romeril of the
Marojoka Hockey Club.
Also coaching were Jill Lauricella, John Kovach - assistant at the
University of Virginia, Kara Tierney - Head coach at Franklin and
Marshall College, Don H. Warner - Head coach at St. Catherine's
School in Richmond, Virginia, and Dot Theobold.
The technical table was administered by Regina Pavlik and Sally
Edinger, while Karen Collins of the USFHA National office coordinated
the whole event. The players and spectators had a wonderful time at
this event which was smoothly run.

Any chance you could also post the hometowns of this team? My daughter
was wondering if she might have run into any of these young ladies at
camps.
