A few weeks ago we had a hard freeze for several days. At least the ground
was frozen hard enough that we were allowed to use the regular greens. It
also saved me a couple strokes. One where I'd normally have to punch out
from the trees, because I couldn't keep the ball down far enough to go
under the branches and still make it over the pond. That day, it bounced
across the pond, up the hill and over the green. The next hole I simply
hit a horrid shot that went onto the pond, bounced 30 feet into the air,
and hit the green.
Last Saturday was one of those in between days, we played temporary greens
for 15 holes, with enough fog for most of them, that the group ahead of us
were Golfers in the Mist.
This week, rain, but at least we shouldn't have frost delays or temporary
greens.
Usually around February I start scanning the weather reports for places
with decent weather, and dreaming, but so far it's been ok.
O yeah, and finally the daylights hanging around a little longer.
Best wishes for the next year.
Where do you play at Jim? We have a little oasis of Lewiston, ID/
Clarkston, WA near the WA/ID border and there are a couple of courses
that stay open year 'round. They ocassionally get some snow closures,
but I've had winters where I get in 20 rounds between Nov through
Feb. I played The Home Course after visiting relatives in Seattle
during Thanksgiving and it was it pretty good shape despite the recent
rains in November. Only $39 if you're a WSGA GHIN member.
Meadowpark is my home course. It doesn't drain as well as The Home Course,
but it's 20 minutes from home instead of 40, and I like the group of
golfers in the men's club. $28 weekends and $25? weedays (for seniors) is
a little better than The Home Course's rates too.
Wasn't there some musings of Meadowpark being sold and/or turned into
apartments? I've played out there once, but it was probaby 5-6 years
ago. Glad to hear it's still open...maybe the downturn in the economy/
real estate saved it.
That's Northshore in NE Tacoma. The conversion is still under dispute.
There were 2 agreements restricting land use for open space. The process
is still going on.
Meadowpark is a "muni" and I hope the park board will never sell. I'd be
more confident if an old gravel pit a stone's throw away hadn't become a
housing development, and other land a stone's throw the other way hadn't
become a WalMart.
