Does anyone know the purpose of the tape on Tiger's right hand middle
finger? I have seen this before, on Ray Floyd and Doug Sanders. ?Blisters
or better grip?

I do put tape on my right hand ring finger because I often play 36
consecutive holes, and the constant rubbing(I use an overlap grip) of that
finger against my pointing finger of my left hand causes an abrasion or
blister to form. I don't know if that is why Tiger does it, but it is a
possibility.

It may be for feel. I know that Dottie Pepper had 3 fingers with tape
on them, for putting only, as they are under a glove the rest of the
time.

I would like to know this myself. Maybe it is a grip alignment and when
he is setting up a shot.

I guess I need to slip a box of Band-aids into my golf bag...
(hey, if it works for Tiger, I'm certainly willing to try it!!)

I was browsing the web about a week ago and somewhere there was
an interview with Butch Harmon which asked a similar question. I think
the response was "to protect a calous" but you should look up the web
article to be sure.

Hope this helps,

It could be tape around a ring that he wears on his finger? But why
wouldn't he just take it off then?

I took my ring off one time and left it in my car while I played. I
couldn't stand it. Not having that ring on after wearing it nearly
continuously for years drove me nuts. I never thought to put tape
over it to keep it from catching on the grip though. Maybe I'll
give it a try.

Look for millions of golfers with tape on their finger . . .

Maybe the same reason I don't take off my wedding rings...don't want to
lose them...I'm very forgetful and fearful.

when i noticed that tape in the last round i seemed to recall that he
is wearing a ring on that finger in previous rounds.

this habit is quite common for ring wearers

I put tape on that exact place on that finger as well (if I am playing
enough to need it). The problem I get right there is that the top of my
index finger of the gloved (left) hand is pressing right into the middle
section of the right hand finger next to the littlest finger. I do not
usually get a blister, but a giant flat calous (sp). The tape greatly
lessens what becomes an real distraction and can get painful at times.

I can't speak for Tiger, of course, but I'll proffer a possible reason:

I find that when I practice a lot, the "outside" part of the fingernail
(the part pointing away from my body if I held my hand in front of me)
on my right middle finger starts to dig into my "finger meat" for lack
of a better term. Sort of like having an "ingrown toenail". To stop
the friction and the movement of the nail, and hence, the digging, I
have also considered puting a tight bandaid around the fingertip. Maybe
Tiger has this problem also.

Well, I think the reason for the tape is more like what happens to me (not
that it matters). In particular, the tape appears to be around the part of
finger where a ring would normally be. I know others who get that big flat
callous thing happing there, so I think thats it. I remember seeing the
tape on one of tigers visit to the either the interview seat or butler
cabin on Sunday with the white tape and it was not on the end of the
finger.

I have the same problem. My right ring finger, at the joint closest to
the nail, but facing the little finger. It rubs agains the left index.
I use the overlapping grip. If I use the baseball, my little finger
of my right hand gets the nail driven into the flesh on the outside of
the little finger.

I once took a lesson from a stupid pro who said that that should not
happen.

Thank goodness for Tiger Woods!

The answer is a Lesser grip because the tape does not have the ridges of a finger or hand. Floyd uses the tape on his fore finger and Tiger on the middle finger. It is good for a lesser hook or slice. Myron Bashor (MyBa...@gmail.com)
