A friend of mine and his wife are going to Panama Beach City in
October. Both are avid golfers, but know very little about the area
and their travel agent isn't any help. Anyone have any information on
golf courses in the area? They're willing to drive 40 miles, if
necessary, to find a good course or courses.

Also, any ideas on restaurants?

Thanks in advance,

In Panama City Beach at the Marriott Resort are two nice courses: the
Lagoon Legend and much more tame course, the name of which escapes me.
Just west of town is the Hombre course, also a nice place to play.
There are other courses in the area, but these are the ones I have
played many times with my wife, daughters, and friends. The Legend is
by far my favorite.

I have played the lagoon legend at the Marriot Bay Pointe resort. The
resort is very near (in) town. It is a nice but hard course in my
opinion. There is water on most holes and I lost quite a few balls. (I
am a high handicapper.) The Marriot Bay Pointe is a nice place to stay,
perhaps the nicest place in town. It is not on the beach if that is what
you are looking for, it is situatated in a lagoon area.

If you want to drive down to Destin the courses there are great. Start at
Sandestin with 54 holes of great golf on the bay and the ocean. Also,
Seascape, Indian Bayou, and in 97 Fred Couples new resort Kelly
Plantation. Oh I almost forgot the best Emerald Bay. You can check out
some of the info on the courses at downsouth.com

Have fun

My foursome lost over 30 balls at Lagoon Legends. Later, the clerk at a PC
Beach golf store told me that Lagoon Legends was rated as one of the
hardest courses in the US. It is a beautiful course and worth it for at
least one try.
