Stormfront is a Neo-Nazi group, but other types of nationalists are
very similar. I recently returned from a trip to Serbia, which has a
very active nationalist movement called "Serbian People's Party,"
often referred to as "SNP1389." I was amazed to learn that 1389 was a
year, involving some ancient battle the Serbs lost to the Turks, and
the event seems to symbolize the Serbs' desire to reclaim their former
empire by eliminating all non-Serbs.
SNP1389 and its fascist-looking symbol (a cross with a 'C'-shaped
doodle in each corner) can be seen in graffiti all over Serbia, along
with declarations that Kosovo is part of Serbia (Kosovo was the scene
of the infamous 1389 battle). This desire to reclaim former
territories is reminiscent of Germany's annexation of Austria in WW2.
There seems to be no desire to reconstitute the former Yugoslavia,
since it was theoretically a federation that included non-Serbs such
as Catholic Croatians and Muslim Bosnians. Not that Serbia would not
like to annex these regions, but only as provinces of a Serbian
Empire, and only after they have been purged of all non-Serbs.
Like many other nationalist movements, the SNP1389 movement relies
heavily on patriotic symbols as well as religion. There is only one
proper religion in Serbia, the Serbian Orthodox Church, and Muslims
are especially unwelcome (remember that the Turkish invaders were
Muslims). This combination of god and country is reminiscent of
patriotic types here in the USA. As might be expected, the SNP1389
hates homosexuals and intimidated authorities to cancel a gay pride
parade in Belgrade earlier this year.
I should also mention that there is a rival neo-fascist movment called
"Obraz," which seems to be more religious in nature than SNP1389, and
which also seeks to restore the former Serbian empire but under the
direct rule of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Despite their ideological
differences, SNP1389 and Obraz find common ground in their hatred for
homosexuals.
Given its nationalistic tendencies, SNP1389 vigorously opposes EU
membership. Serbia is for Serbs, and non-Serbs are unwelcome, as is
any usurpation of Serbian authority over its own domestic affairs.
This is probably the least popular detail of the SNP1389 movement,
since the majority of Serbs seem to want the right to travel freely
that comes with EU membership, not to mention the huge economic boost
that would come from foreign investment.

It is simply breathtaking to watch the glee and abandon with which

Green, Benevolent, Nationalist movements here and abroad. In case of a
