"I know that no one reading this review will believe it, but it is completely true. I promise. I took a 30 minute lesson from the pro who now (not then) is the oldest living PGA professional (you can look up his name with that information). This occured in the mid 1970s in the Philadelphia area. You will be able to figure out exactly where, if interested. At the time of my lesson, I had played a hundred (or more?) rounds of golf, had broken 100 only once (a 96), and generally was a double-triple bogey player. My putting was not all that bad, but my ball-striking was atrocious if not downright ugly. My handicap at the time was 27 or 28, and that was the lowest handicap I had ever had up to that time. For me to shoot 110-115 was not at all unusual. A good day would be where I hoped to have a chance to break 100, which as I said had happened only once. The Pro taught me square-to-square (to the extent such can be done in 30 minutes). He weakened my grip, closed my club face at address, had me take it back square, maintain a flat (square) wrist at the top of the backswing, and then just let it go. At the end of that 30 minute lesson, I had in fact been transformed into a 14-15 handicap. Yes, in 30 minutes. That same day, playing the same home course I almost always played, I shot an 85. I hit the first three greens in regulation. It was not a fluke. On the basis of only one 30-minute lesson, my game became one where thereafter I played consistently in the mid 80s."

Doug Tewell's short backswing that changes everything. I tried it yesterday on the range and it works! Easy! Just stop turning when your elbow is under your chin.

A Sneak Preview Of The 8 Myths Of The Modern Golf Swing
By 12-Time PGA Winner & 2-Time Major Winner Doug Tewell
• Myth #1: "You MUST Rotate Your Wrists." WRONG! Wrist rotation is causing you more harm than good, and I'll show you why...
• Myth #2: "You MUST Make a Full Backswing." WRONG! A shorter swing can offer more consistency (and even more POWER)...
• Myth #3: "You MUST Turn Your Shoulders 90 Degrees." WRONG! You're killing your game — and your body — with this belief...
• Myth #4: "You MUST Take the Club Back Flat." WRONG! Flat backswings cause a variety of errors. This is how you should be doing it...
• Myth #5: "You MUST Fold Your Wrist For Proper Impact." WRONG! A folded wrist is a ticket to inconsistency...
• Myth #6: "You MUST Practice a Lot." WRONG! Can you get really get better by practicing less? YES!
• Myth #7: "You MUST Rotate Clubface Shut To Cure Your Slice." WRONG! There's only one true way to straighten your banana ball...
• Myth #8: "You MUST Drop Your Shoulders/Drive Your Hips for Maximum Power." WRONG! Real power comes from these "hidden" places...

I use Google Groups, so I don't have a "kill file." And this is fine for the few minutes a day I spend on the Usenet-- far more on other interest groups than RSG, BTW. I see his posts and ignore them. I keep thinking he cares that we all see his insane obsession--and will modify his behavior. He knows we see that, but he continues stalking and posting, and posting, and posting. He certainly verifies Einstein's statement that one proof of insanity is someone (or even an animal) that continues to do the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result. Even a rabbit learns and quits. But Alan Baker persists. I would be afraid to meet him in person. He is a nutcase.

They all scream that they are normal and sane as they drag them away. Jeffrey Dahmer thought he was just fine. But society decides whether someone is acceptable based on his behavior. AB's behavior is so abnormal that he is HATED on this and several other threads and has been KICKED OFF of every discussion group with a moderator. That happens because he is always antagonistic and personally threatening. He hates anyone who crosses him and that shines through his words. The pattern repeats over and over again. He posts, people complain, they warn him, he posts again, they warn him again, and he posts another personal attack and he is GONE, blocked from access again. The moderator ejects him like a watermelon seed to save the discussion group. EVERYONE would leave if they allowed Alan Baker to stay. He posts here because we have no moderator. He can't post in other Usenet forums because the regulars so vociferously attack him. Golfers are nicer than skiers, for instance.

FWIW, I tried the square to square approach a long time ago. IMHO the
'right' swing for a given person is a very personal thing. But I could
see how a golfer could learn to like this approach to the golf swing. In
particular it seemed to be a very good way to get to impact with a
square clubface.

I did find that it felt somehow unnatural and that feeling never really
went away. So ultimately I never put in the effort required to 'change
to' this swing.

But I can see how someone could learn to like this swing.

I agree that it feels "unnatural" to stop your backswing abruptly. But we all love to see the ball going straight! And that can quickly become a habit! Nothing sucks more than inadvertently and helplessly getting the club crossed on top and then slicing. That happens when we make a good backswing, get the club in ideal position, and then helplessly continue lifting and turning until an out-to-in clubhead path to the ball is inevitable. Every teaching pro will attest that that is the action of most of his middle handicap students. We just can't stop doing that.

So consciously stopping our backswing at vertical is the answer. I will do that from now on. I just want to hit fairways and greens.

And how many times in the past have you told us you at "the answer" to
hitting fairways and greens, Larry?

If they all worked, why do you need a new "answer", and if all those
previous "answers" didn't work, why should anyone trust your statements
about this latest one?

Why would he? Every post Larry makes is to bait Alan Baker. Larry is
the best troll to ever hit RSG. Some of us figured it out early on,
others are still too stupid to see it.

I wanted to emphasize both that "forums" was his word (hence the

I have seen a few of his video teasers in my email, and his theory is solid, for the newer as well as older (that he wants to target). Nothing fancy though, about not over-using the wrists so one doesn't have to flip at the impact zone.

Well, it works! I played ONE BALL on Indian Wells CC and hit every
fairway and a few (not near all) of the greens. I steered it arrow
straight from the tee and from the fairway by simply making only a
partial backswing and then smoothly swinging-- almost no thought of
"distance" to distort my movement. That works.

I drove less than 200 yards. So what? Then instead of hitting middle
or short iron to the green, I had to use 3w or even 5w because that
same smooth swing was NOT going to propel it full 3w distance. But I
hit it straight-- and put it in easy up and down position.

That round was fun. My wife enjoyed seeing me mellow and having fun,
NOT out in the rough cussing and back on the tee giving myself more
lessons. Strongly recommended.

Another Baker bet proffer. And it will have a bunch of impossible

Quick question, Larry:

How many times have you written "it works!" and "I hit every fairway".

Funny that you were claiming only a little while ago that you could hit
"arrow straight" three woods from the fairway 230 yards...

But... ...you've told us for YEARS that you "hit all the fairways (and
most of the greens)" with every secret, Larry. What happened?

Well I guess we'll see now, won't we?

Larry claims he's just killfiled me, so if Mike is right, he won't see
my posts and will therefore "go away".

Do you want to place a wager that that's what will happen?
