My question....does anyone know of a good Cleveland VAS knock off? I
would be interested to know if there is even one and if they are
available on the Canadian west coast.
I walked out to the parking lot with tme VAS owner...he got into his new
BMW and I got into my beat up '85 Suabru wagon.....and yes...my current
clubs are a 7 year old set of Ping knock offs. The only two clubs I am
truly proud of are my Invex/D2 Firestick and my 1200GE putter...oh yeah,
and a pretty good Cactus splash wedge.
I look forward to hearing from everybody!
Cheers...Cam
Why is that when you go to play your slice, the shot goes straight?
One bright spot is that Cleveland has just announced the VAS+ irons,
which are now the flagship clubs. The price of the original VAS irons
seems to have dropped about $200+ per set. Some VAS customers are
trading in/up for the VAS+ irons, so some used sets can be found.
Personally, I prefer the original VAS irons, even with the purple
graphite shafts.
I did see some knock-off VAS copies about two years ago. Tried a five
iron out at the local range. It set up approximately the same with the
offset hosel. However, it didn't have the vibration-absorbtion system on
the back of the face, just plain metal. Shot performance was slightly
less than the real VAS, but still better than my old clubs. Sorry, can't
remember the manufacturer.
Good Luck!!!

I have seen Cleveland head VAS 792 knock-offs here in Toronto, Nevada
Bobs, I think.
Be sure they have a good shaft on them. I sprung for some Clevelands last
year (hey, and before the Pavin US Open hoopla), and have not regretted
it!!

Golfsmith's Trifecta heads have many of the features of the VAS+ (and they came
out last year, so who's knocking off who???). Iron heads are about $11.00 ea.,
depending on quantity purchased. And you get to customize with your own choice
of shafts and grips, to boot! And no, no interest in Golfsmith except as a
satisfied customer and novice builder.

Just to second Rob's post, my recollection of the sequence of events (and
I'm quite certain it's correct) is:
1. Cleveland introduces VAS.
2. Golfsmith introduces Trifecta, which borrows the notion of an inset
hosel, but is in all other regards pure Golfsmith. (General head shape,
square grooves, cast logo, not "viscoelastic" plastic logo, etc.)
3. Cleveland introduces VAS+, which looks a lot more like the Trifecta than
like the VAS.
While we're on the subject, UT Golf makes a very pretty inset-hosel clubhead
(in the catalog, never saw it in person) called the Avanti.
Hope this helps.
