Does anyone have any course recommendations for Destin, FL. I'll be staying
at Sundestin in early June.

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

Since you are staying at Sandestin, you'll have 63 holes of resort golf
right there on site (I believe it's 63 anyway). The Links course is
nice, as well as the Burnt Pine course. Check with the resort to find
out about special rates for guests.

Others I might recommend are Seascape, which is only 2 or 3 miles west
of Sandestin (toward Destin), and is a reasonable test. The course
winds through a condo development, but is generally in great shape this
time of year. There are several new courses that have opened recently,
including Regatta Bay and Emerald Bay (which I believe is a Fred Couples
design). These may be a little toward the steep end ($80 - $90 per
round, with cart), but I believe they offer a great cut rate to play
additional holes ($30 to play an additional 18). All of these courses
are right there on Highway 98 between Sandestin and Destin. They all
also have large signs with phone numbers to call for tee times.

Have fun on your visit to the Gulf Coast!

I was just there a few weeks ago. We played: (in order of preference)
1) Burnt Pine - Excellent course, best burmuda greens I've seen anywhere,
bunkers in perfect condition. Can't recommend it
enough.
2) Regatta Bay - Nice wide fairways and a lot of fun.
3) Kelly Plantation - New Fred Couples design, also very nice.
4) Emerald Bay - Loved it two years ago but it is now pitiful. Many greens
have
been rebuilt and the speeds are all
different. Fairways terrible.

Expect to pay a hundred dollars at all of the above. The clubhouses at
Regatta and Kelly are not yet finished but I liked both courses and would go
back. If the other courses at Sandestin are as good as Burnt Pine I might
just play those. :-)

Try Blue Water Bay Resort. I've played there several times because we stay
at Blue Water. Two 18 hole layouts, Not the greatest maintenance, but
greens are decent. Cost is around $60 - $70.

If you mean SanDestin resort, you have three excellent courses at your
disposal. I stay at the SanDestin Hilton Resort every May and played the
courses there last year after taking up the game. My personal favorite was
the links course. Beautiful, LONG, scenic - a real treat! Of course it ate
my lunch, but it was definately worth it. Too bad I won't be going this
year (one week old boy at home). Now that I can actually strike the ball it
should be a real delight. Have fun. That is one great resort. If you stay
at the Hilton - or even if you don't - go to the poolside canteen and get a
shrimp salad on croissant. They are the best.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. However, I am staying at Sundestin not
Sandestin. The difference, Sundestin is a highrise condo without the
"resort" facilities so it does not have a golf course associated with it.
This is why I am looking for course suggestions. Sundestin is also about
$1,500 dollars less a week than Sandestin.

Thanks,
Tom

I haven't seen Sundestin on my previous trips. However, I would still
recommend the courses at SanDestin. I don't know what price range you want
to keep your golf in, but the SanDestin courses are pricey. I'm thinking
somewhere in the $90- $100 range with cart. Of course the strip from Fort
Walton to Panama City is full of quality golf courses in many price ranges
so I'm sure you'll find good facilities regardless of which courses you
choose. Have a great time and enjoy your vacation.

I live just down the road in Emerald Bay. You have some great courses
just next door at Regatta Bay, Kelly Plantation, and here at Emerald
Bay. Another great course is just across the Bay Bridge at Bluewater
Bay. They have 36 holes of beautiful scenery and challenging golf.
If you have any questions, ask for directions to Edwin Watts Golf Shop
on Hwy 98 in Destin and pick up "Golfing the Emerald Coast", a list of
every course from Pensacola to Panama City.
