Hello,

My girl friend has been saying she was going to start playing golf for about
an year, and finally she is going to buy her own set of club.

Last Saturday I went to a pro shop near the course I was going to play a
round and found a new women's club set from Mizuno, TAVA.

I have no first hand experience using Mizuno clubs, but three of my golf
buddies recently switched to Mizuno (MP-33, MP-30, and MX-20 respectively),
and all of them are very happy with their new clubs. Actually I went to the
pro shop with a couple of those friends, and they strongly recommended TAVA
for my girl friend. I guess they are now loyal Mizuno players.

Taking their words for the quality, what I particularly like about TAVA is
its club configuration and price. The iron set starts with #6, instead of
#4, which is more conventional for women's clubs, and the wood set comes
with #7 (or utility). So, the whole set consists of D, 3W, 5W, 7W, and #6 -
SW. And, it's *only* $699. Well, $699 still is not a small amount of money
for my girl friend, but it could've been a lot more if she went with other
well known brand name clubs, like Callaway or Ping.

How does it sound to you guys? Has anyone of you played this new clubs? Do
you like them? Or, do you know anybody who has the set? Does she like
them? Any comments?

Thank you.

_Jung

For Your Information - English isn't consistent here. We do say "new women's
club set", but we also set "her own set of clubs".

Howard,
Whats your point? Are you correcting the guy's English or are you trying to
understand what he is trying to ask (about Golf) and give him feedback to
the best of your abilities? Oh, BTW, make sure you type "say" instead of
"set". (But we also Say, not set "her own set of clubs"). While you are at
it, why don't you fix all other gramatical mistakes of the post and start a
grammer class on the golf newsgroup!!!

Jung,

I don't think you can go wrong with Mizuno clubs and everyone I know who
uses Mizuno clubs love them. As for buying a new set for your girlfriend,
are you sure you want to spend 700$ on a new set? Is she really that
interested in Golf? How well can she play? Has she taken any lessons?

Starter sets from non name brand companies are about 200$ and are pretty
decent clubs for beginners. My wife wanted to take up golf 2 years ago and
started looking at Callaways. I got her a set of Dunlops for 200$ and guess
what, they have been used exactly ONCE!. So, unless your girlfriend is
serious about golf, I would rethink spending 700$ on Mizunos.

Okay, so I missed "s." Thank you for your kind reply. -_-;

By the way, do you have any comments on Mizuno TAVA?

Have a nice day.

I have been a Mizuno user for several years.
Some of my friends play Mizuno as well.
I believe the Mizuno quality is fantastic.
I do not know the particular model you are asking about because I pay less
attention to women's equipment, but, I believe the Mizuno standards of
craftsmanship are very high.
If you do order the irons, get your girlfriend properly fit first. Mizuno will
manufacture to her requirements.

My abilities to answer his question don't exist.

This is a world-wide forum and his post seemed to be of someone whose native
language isn't English. More power to him. I'm not competent at all with my
second language. My post started off with a FYI, and I thought he would like
to know. I certainly appreciate such help when I work on my communication
skills.

I'm sorry, but I'm ignorant here.

I agree wholeheartedly on the $$ being spent. Years ago(13 or so now), my
girlfriend at the time wanted to take up golf so she could go along with
me... (ok, so I didn't realize at the time how BAD an idea THAT was!*g*)...
she's lefthanded. Special ordered a set in through the pro shop at the
course I played, beginners set mind you, but they nailed me around $250 for
'em. Total waste of money, she went once, did nothing but complain, I hated
it, etc.. etc... and we fought the entire time.

Thanks for your answers.

For whatever reason, it seems like people think I am buying this set for my
girl friend. The fact is.. SHE is buying it. :)

I agree with the idea of starting with a cheaper set. As a matter of fact I
even recommended her to get a starter set from Wilson, which is about $300
for the whole set (= irons and woods).

Well, apparently she doesn't want to play with clubs from a "bargain" brand
(you know girls :). Not that she thinks Mizuno is on the higher side on the
price spectrum, but I guess she kinda knows Mizuno is a respectful brand
name.

So, my girl friend is going to spend $700 of her money to get equipments for
a game that she has never played before and has no idea whether she will
like or not.... I just hope this is a sign of how much she's committed
already, and the commitment lasts (long enough to get hooked on it - I
believe everyone will eventually fall in love with this game once he/she
gets to play it enough times).

By the way, I found a dealer on the net that sells the set for $549 (no
extra s/h charge!). Now it looks like a truly unbeatable deal. Actually,
my mother also ordered a set yesterday for herself. Yes, my father finally
has successfully convinced my mother to start playing golf. It's funny it
only took me two years to accomplished something that took my father 20
years (talking our significant others into playing golf). ha ha

Have a nice day.

She knows correctly. About 11 years ago here in RSG I
hooked up with a guy who sold me his $1250 set of Mizunos
(MGC-35's with graphite shafts and oversized Titanium
heads) for $250. I've never found anything wrong with
them.

Mostly because I stopped blaming my clubs once I found
my swing and used them to make a couple of hundred pure
shots in a row (minus a few reasonable errors).

It's come and gone since then, but now I know the problem is
not the clubs, so I'm confident I need to work on my skill
and not what's in my bag.

Until I'm hitting them pure again, and then I'm going to
try some Pings.

If having expensive clubs and a beginner's skill gives you
any psychological value, it's that you justify the expense
by practicing more and being serious about improving.

You can learn very nice golf skills with inexpensive
equipment, and you can fail to learn any golf skills with
expensive clubs.
