Went to Rodger Dunn golf shop and told them I am looking for a very
"forgiving" set of irons.
I am what I call myself 'an advanced beginner'....if there is such a
thing! lol

I told them $$ is not an object- I want the best clubs for me. I was
fully expecting them to send me to one of the Callaway sets- they cost
more $$ and they work on a commission.

I was surprised to see this salesman told me the best irons are the
Pinseeker TPW III (total perimeter weight). They cost about $550
compared to the $1200 callaway.

Anyone play the Pinseekers? Good or bad info would be great.

P.S. How do I find the archives for this news group?

Get some lessons first -- with the idea of trying out different types,
styles of clubs. Do you know - what shaft flex is right for you? what head
size? how much offset? At least narrow the selection down BEFORE you buy a
set of clubs you may not like in 3 months. A visit to a clubmaker might
also be very informative before you plunk down cash on an off-the-shelf set
which may/may not be good for you.

Their commission may be based on profit, rather than total sale price.
Having said that, I know nothing about Pinseekers, but I do have an opinion
on some decent priced irons for a 'relative' beginner.

I personally play Ping Zing 2's and love them, while many do not like the
size and shape. But, I believe the Cobra irons are very undervalued. I
have friends with the original King Cobras as well as the King Cobra II's,
and I have yet to talk to anyone who did not like them. I used to have a
set of the originals, but had to sell them while in college. You can
actually find them at reasonable prices on Ebay and elsewhere. Heck, they
weren't as expensive as many premium iron sets when they were new.

Just my two cents.

Thanks to all who replied.  The help is appreciated.

I talked some more with the golf pro I am taking lessons from...tried some more clubs out at the store...and ended up going with the Pinseekers with a firm graphite shaft.

That should take at least 4 or 5 strokes off my game!   lol

Thanks again,

Mike
