I would like to tag onto this and know the difference between PI2
and PI2+.

By all means follow the reference, because the substantive "facts" in the
above sentences are wrong. The reference has it right, but there's a new
development. If you play your tournaments under R&A rather than USGA,
the in-between Eye2s are illegal. (Though Ping has a couple of programs
that will make them legal for free or cheap.)
Cheers!

Howard, I play with S2H2 irons and have played two seasons with them. The
two seasons prior to that I was playing Ping Eye 2. I played reasonably
well with the Pings but found the short irons difficult to line up so
switched to the Callaways and I have become attached to them. Last year I
puchased a set of Big Bertha irons that now collect dust while I play the
S2H2's.
Dave, The difference between the Ping Eye 2 and the Eye 2 + is the grooves.
The original Eye 2 has the square grooves that started the rules flap
between Karsten and the USGA.

Your tag along is fine. I play the PI2, close to 10 years now. I know of
several good players that have constantly switched to other irons, including
the PI2+, and have gone back to the original PI2.
The sole of the club is carved out on the PI2+, whereas the sold of the PI2 are
wider. It is the opinion of many good players I know that the PI2 are the
flagship of the PING irons. In fact, I can sell my PI2 for what I bought them
for 9 years ago, of course, with inflation, it is not exactly the same amount.
I am currently experimenting with the s2H2 irons because I have an opportunity
to buy a set for next to nothing. My primary observation is that both the PI2
and the S2H2 are similar in offset and appearance, with the S2H2 looking more
like a classic blade, which is what I like. However, most new stuff on the
market today does not resemble a blade looking club, ie; Bertha Irons Ugh!
Good luck, Howard
I have a set of steel shafted S2H2's that I wouldn't trade for any of the
newer clubs that I've tested. IMHO, a lot of the newer clubs have that
"thick" look (esp. the BB irons) which doesn't aid in setup at all and
looks ugly to boot; the S2H2 iron looks very hittable at setup with its
thin profile and "classic" look. As for forgiveness, I feel that the S2H2
is as good in this regard as the supposed "king" of forgiveness: the BB
irons. In any case, if you're thinking of getting a set (which in used
form can be substantially cheaper than most new OEM clubs), I'll suggest
that you try it at the driving range first.
The difference between the Ping Eye2 and the Eye2+ is that the Eye2+ are
the newer version with the "legal" grooves. Early Eye2's also have the
legal grooves but latter Eye2's are ruled illegal by the PGA because of
their square grooves. Thus, if you're thinking of playing competitively,
look for the earliest specimens of Eye2's or Eye2+'s. See the golf web
page at http://dunkin.princeton.edu for more info.
Cheers,
Benz
