Yes. A couple years ago Mi Hyun Kim (?) donated her purse to that town
in Kansas that got blown away.
Payne Stewart donated his entire winning check at Bay Hill to the
hospital in memory of his father, if I recall correctly.
Michelle Wie and Scott Hoch also come to mind. Michelle more than
Scott, of course.
Charitable donations are tax deductible for now.

So you don't pay taxes on the million dollars you give away. That
means it only cost you half of that depending on how good your tax
lawyers are.
