Hit 'em straight, Richard Albin ;^)
I'm brandy new to golf. When I first started swinging (i.e. driving
at the range) I hit the ball straight. Of course, when I started
actually playing and trying to inprove my game I had the slice from
hell. (Ever see the ball move 90 degrees from the tee. Betch you
never had to yell "FORE" at the driving range!) Well, I say the
NextStep show which featured the "Natural Golf" grip. Naw. Couldn't
be that simple. I've poured over many, many books. It just couldn't
be that simple. Well. it is. My first game was a whopping 158 using
the "normal" grip. Last weekend I played and shot a 126 using the
"natural" grip. I would have done even better if the putting muses
were kind.
So, yes I'm a believer in "Natural Golf."
Tell me please, what is the "Natural Golf"?
Thanks

The Natural Golf method is a new method making 90 and 100 shooting
hackers scratch golfers over night, Next years PGA tour should be
flooded with weekend golfers using this new magical concept.
1. PALM GRIP: it's a ten-finger grip but your right hand is positioned
=09such that the grip runs along the life-line. =20
2. WIDE STANCE: stance that is wider than your shoulder. Wider than=20
=09Tiger Woods' stance.
3. 2/3 SWING: It's even shallower than Hogan's swing and there is no
=09cocking of the wrist in any part of the swing.
4. POSITION OF THE CLUB HEAD: The club head is placed 6 inches
=09behind the ball before starting the swing.=20
I haven't the clue as to how Moe or any other golfer can hit with with the
swing. Jim Furyck's swing is almost orthodox compared to Moe's Natural
Golf swing! If you have any success with it, tell us.

Very simple, he's been hittting it that way for 50 years. Just like
Furyck is able to use his swing, Moe is able to use his. Ever wonder
how you could hit a ball using bad habits? The brain does not let you
constantly miss the ball. That is how so many golfers are able to hit
it with pretzel looking swings.

I had just seen an infomercial for "Natural Golf" when I went to the driving
range. I was having trouble with my normal swing, so I thought, "What the
heck, I'll try Moe Norman's set-up and swing". Believe it or not it was
working for me. I was hitting it solidly and straight. Of course I was too
vain to keep that swing, but it did make me think that if I had one of those
days at the course where nothing seems to work, I might try that set-up and
swing just to get through the round.

I am inclined to disagree with this definition. Firstly, 90 and 100
shooters usually could improve their score with better putting, so we're
talking at this point about the merits of the swing, tee-to-green.
Definitely, from my observation and experience, this swing will, WITH
SUSTAINED PRACTICE, produce a repeating swing with better direction, more
length, and more consistency for such golfers, and will extend the playing
years of seniors.
I am not connected in any way with Natural Golf. I have seen it in action
and am envious, because as a left-hander playing right-handed, this
predominantly right-sided swing doesn't match my muscular complement and
thus is denied me.

Swallowed the Natural Golf bait whole, myself, for all the reasons
you list; and, maybe just didn't stay with it long enuf (and certainly
didn't get any great length.) But could you elaborate further WRT your
"observation and experience" please. How many NG "cases" and could you
describe them "then, and now?" Also, in a recent post Peter (?) speaks
of Moe Norman "pulling" with the left arm which seems to make NG about
the same as a "swing model" WRT the right arm--passive (no "thrust"
just sensing "position" in swing.)
Thanks,

I wondered about this too. Peter Fox talked about Moe's pull with the
left arm, but Natural Golf emphasizes a hammering motion with the
right arm, because this is where 76% of the power comes from.
They also stress that you hit the ball longer with Natural Golf and
Natural Golf clubs. What they don't tell you is how much longer
Natural Golf clubs are. Their Natural 9 iron is just as long as my
conventional 4 iron. Scott Hazeldine, who was VP of Natural Golf and
played in a U.S. Open, and I hit balls side by side at the local
range. He hit the Natural 6 iron just as far as I hit my conventional
6 iron. As a matter of fact, our shots were nearly identical, and I
don't consider myself a long ball hitter. How could my conventional
length 6 iron and swing hit the same shot that the NG 6 iron and swing
produced? Is there something you're not being told?
In all fairness I must add, when it came to hitting the woods Scott
murdered me.

Natural Golf is a method of swinging the club chosen recently by
a member of my usual foursome, that cost him (in addition to new
clubs etc) another $155 just in lost bets for the round we played last
week. (He now thinks that Moe Norman ought to cover gambling losses
while learning his method).

What, this guy isn't taking YOUR money? I can't believe this. You've
got to be kidding us. At worst this guy should be shooting high 60's
low 70's. Their hasn't been a person born yet, who after trying this
new method for several short weeks, wasn't on the verge of shooting
course records.
So are you saying this method may not be magic after all?
