I am considering buying a set of Titleist DCI irons. Does anyone
have any experience using them? Any opinions good and bad will be
appreciated.

This question has popped up quite frequently in r.s.g. From what I recall,
the DCIs have appealed to a wide range of golfers here - from high-handicappers
(who find them easy to play) to single-digit golfers (who like the feel of the
club relative to Pings and 845s). I guess you can't go wrong with them. Price-
wise, they should be cheaper than the Pings or 845s, which is another good
reason to consider them.

I played with these 2 years ago when only the offset version was available
(gold triangle). Now, there is a choice between offset (gold) and non-offset
(black triangle). I'd choose the non-offset if I were to switch back to the
DCIs. The choice of offset version is mostly a matter of personal preference
regarding how you like to see you clubs at address. Also, I found that the
offset version caused a higher ball trajectory than other clubs.

Hope this helps.

I've had DCI gold triangle for about 6 months and love them, good feel
and just about the greatest looking club around! Try them out! --Ed

I don't really think that they have the greatest look you can find, but
I confirm that they are among the best clubs you can play with (easy
enough, and very precise when playing delicate shots).

I've had DCI black triangles for the past year. I noticed a few things
immediately with my game.
The DCIs give you a great deal of feel and performance. Strike the ball
well and you *will* stick the shot (the increased action on the ball looks
nice, too :-). They seem to offer a higher trajectory shot than other
irons I've played with.
However, they're not quite as forgiving as some clubs. I've heard the
gold triangles give you a greater margin of error, but I've never hit with
them.
If you're a low to moderate handicapper, I'd strongly recommend the black
triangles. Those who struggle with accuracy, however, may find the gold
triangles more in line with their game.

Good luck, and hope you don't have half the snow as I have here,
Doug Goodman
(in Boston, where we got 16-24" yesterday with up to another foot
possible today...won't be dusting off my DCI's for another couple of
months. Golf season isn't over till you can't see the stick...but
unfortunately, I can't...)

As far as I can tell, the major difference between the black and the gold
is that the gold is offset and the black is not. This would explain the
suitability for low/high handicappers.

BTW, for you club builders, the ProSwing MSC is a pretty good clone of the
DCI Gold. (Note that this year's model doesn't have a triangle on the back.
Lawyers must've sued 'em for trademark infringement.)

Golfsmith also makes a DCI clone called the "Progressive Offset". Funny thing
is, it doesn't appear in their '93 or '94 catalogs. I found out about it by
chance while talking to one of their phone reps in December. I was very
interested since I've hit most of the major brands in the last six months and
liked the DCI the best. I made a 5 iron over the holidays and liked it so
much I've made a whole set. I'll post some details after I've had a chance to
whack them around the course a bit.

I just read in my Dynacraft monthly magazine that one of the major
manufacturers just settled out of court with one of the clone suppliers.
They didn't specify which manufacturer or which supplier, but they did
say that the settlement was that the supplier would cease to sell the
clones AND would turn over the name of EVERYONE who bought the clones.
I'm not sure what it means, but I found it interesting.
