How the fuck could a team that won a superbowl 2 seasons ago (and that
goal line defense that stuffed the niners at the 1 yd line was a reminder) end
up in this sort of fucking mess .............

Sure, age! Did you see how LT was man-handled all day. Or when they let him
go, Steve Young just ran around him and got outside? Excepting that one
Giant lineman (think his name was Howard), the rest of the giants defensive
line and linebackers played pretty poorly. Luckily for the giants, Jerry
Rice was so rusty that his penalities whiped out his TD and a 50 yard pass
to Taylor. Haily shot the 49ers defense in the foot too, getting several
calls against him for lack of brains (offside on a punt that gave the
Giants a 1st down & resulted eventually in a Giant TD). Then he was called
for having too much fun after sacking Simms and gave up a 15 yard penalty.
Despite winning the 49ers looked rough and the giants looked old and slow.
What I want to know is did anyone think the 49ers would have a running back
who could gain a 100+ yards on the ground against the vaunted Giants defense?

ugh!!! my first prediction and I get nailed.
Only thing missing , offense. No point in blaming bobby hebert. The offensive linemen should make holes for dunbar. It was ridiculous that they used dunbar for most of the game against the #1 defense. If the offense had made holes then a small and agile RB can just cut thro'. But against the eagle defense making a hole is just a dream. Should have used iron head....
Saints defense was simply great. They get the ball back and one minute later the defense has to be back on the field. Just a one minute breather??? and still a 15 - 13 game!! that is some defense!!!!
Saints live and die by morten anderson. against the eagles they died. Anyway my predictions for the NFL west still stands. Anybody questioning the saints defense read about the game. Cunnigham sacked three times, ...1 by pat swilling the 1991 #1 sacker, 1 by jackson, and 1 by sam mills (I think).
The saints have one of worst opening game records but still they will head for the NFC west championships.
Again the saints secondary gets burned. But if the defense continues to be the same then all QB's better wear sacks.

which ask the the LB's and DB,s to basically react to what the offence is
doing, meaning they have to think more. Thus their reaction is alittle
slower, the 9ers seems to exploit this alot sunday. In fact, I can almost
garantee the sucess rate of the 9ers play-action passes were about 90%
sucessful.
As for Watters performance sunday, No offense to him, but, come'on guys
we are talking about basically a rookie here that slice up the GIANTS
defense here , were are not talking about a Sanders, E.Smith or a T.Thomas
any running back would have had a good day against the GIANTS 'D sunday.
As example note the preseason game against the Steelers, even RB's that
were cut from the steelers squad looked liked all-pro against the GIANTS 'D.
Another example is how Mark Collins played against Jerry Rice. Collins always
play Rice very agressive (bump & run as well a man-to-man) but Rod Rust
defense has him laying off his man, and thats all Rice needs is to have
alot of room in front of him.
Most of the Defensive players here openly object to the new scheme.

All I'm saying to you, and 9er fans, is don't use the GIANTS game as a measuring
stick for the niner offense. The GIANTS Defense is not the one youre use
to seeing (even last year). Rod Rust (GIANTS current Def. Corrd.) is trying
to implement a AFC type defense (finesse) on guys built (+200lb CB) to
play NFC East type defense,which is an agressive, run-stoppin, dare-you-to-pass
type defense (i.e Smash-nose).
IMO, Rod Rust system is basically simular to what Bud Carson (Eagles) have,
but, what Carson did was, in his first year he did not try to force his
scheme on his players all at once but gradeually implement it. He got
virtualy no resistance from the players and in 2 years time, His scheme
is working great. RoD Rust tried to convert the GIANTS (which been using
their defence for abpout 10 years) defense within a 6 week period, and
because of this the GIANTS will get, at least the next 6 weeks, their
butt kicked up and down the field 8{[.

Don't forget how badly the giants play against the 9ers. The last few
encounters have been won by the leg of Matt Bahr. For some reason, The
giants never do that well against the 9ers (i though that Haley had
something to do with it, but throw that out the window now).

IMO, the talent (and even a lot of the players) are the same as 1990. Back
then, they were an above-average team that played mistake-free football and got
lucky breaks. 1992 is a team that looks lost.

Yeah, Everyone is right here. The Giants do need time to adjust to the new
defense. In a local paper LT was quoted as saying "you think we looked
confused, well we were, we were missing our assignments regularly."
On a different note, although things looked pretty shabby, I was pleased to
see them go for the TD's and not settle for field goals.

I totally agree with you John that the Giants always play the Niners
good. I would say that both teams have been thorns in each others
sides for the past ten years.
Up until this last game, the past 5 meetings between the two teams
resulted in those games being decided by a total of 21 points. I
would say that that is pretty darn close! Although wasn't it in
1986 when the two teams met in the playoffs, and the Giants blew the
Niners off the field with a score of something like 47-3??

Yea,Tony, but, all except 1 (I think the D-line coach) is still around
from the coaching staff of the GIANTS of a few years ago.
From now on I dont think the games will be as exciting as they once were,
because the teams wont match up (style wise) like they used to, because
of the change in the GIANTS offensive/defensive schema.

too! He ended up spending the night in the hospital because of that

Speaking of Burt, during the Niners/Giants game on Sunday, they
did a little segment on Burt. I thought that it was a little
strange that the majority of the footage they showed of Burt, most
of it was Burt wearing the Red & Gold. Burt did make a nice
contribution for a few years with the Niners, but I feel that he
made his name in New York. I just think that they should have shown
most of Burt's footage in a Giants uniform. It would only be fair
to show career footage of Lott wearing the Red & Gold instead of the
Silver & Black don't ya think?

last SB ring (only one?). He made an immediate impact on the
Niner's squad, and he was instrumental (one of many players)
in the Niner's winning the division, playoffs and SB.
