Interesting, I do agree with part of your predictions but here's some
questions that you will face inevitably (because some will be offended). I
think the Cowboys take #1 and Wash falls flat last, move Gmen to #4.
TB will also fall flat in 4th. GB wins divison followed by Detroit
(Wildcard) Minnesota (Wildcard).
I agree that San Fran also experiences problems, however, this divison is
a toss up. The Panthars have improved over the offseason, Atlanta and the
Rams have also improved. The Saints did as well but they were further back
from the other teams in the first place (agree with last place). The last
wildcard could go to the best team who finishes second in the East or West
(I'd lean towards Rams and Panthars at this point, MAYBE the 49ers (e.g.,
Cowboys like last year)

Here is where I agree with you the most of these (all divison winners dead
on).
In the East I put the Fins' in last (otherwise the same).
In the Central move Pitt to #2 (WC #3).
In West move KC up 1 spot. Come on SD will get the #1 pick next year ooops
make that Arizona!!! LOL. Seattle and Oakland WC's #1 and #2.

Your's was the laugh of the day.
Here's what our board of so-called experts from The Goose's Nest '98
Footbal Club came up with for the '98 season:
In the NFC East- Dallas, Giants, Redskins, Cardinals, and Phiadelphia.
And in the NFC Central- Packers, *Bucs,
Lions, Vikings, then Da Bearz.
In the NFC West- 49ers, *Panthers, *Falcons, Rams, and, finally, the
team with the worst Vegas odds of winning the Super Bowl, Le New Orlean
Aints (200-1).
The AFC East- Patriots, Dolphins, Jets, Bills, Colts.
And in the AFC Central- Jags, *Steelers, Oilers, Ravens, Bungles.
Finally, in the AFC West- Broncos, *Chiefs, *Seahawks, Raiders, then the
Chargers.
*- Denotes Wild-Card team.

NFC East
1. Dallas- Talent is at least on par with the other goods teams in
this division. Aikman at QB gives them the edge.
2. Washington- How good can Frerotte be? Defensive improvments should
have them contending for a wild card.
3. N.Y. Giants- Have to rebound after disaster in playoffs. Might
be no better than .500.
4. Arizona- A year away. OL isn't good enough.
5. Philadelphia- Maybe only a four or five win team.
NFC Central
1. Green Bay- Should be motivated to return to the Superbowl. Still
the best overall team in the NFC.
2. Tampa Bay- Might take a few steps backwards, but I don't see it
happening. Should battle GB the whole way.
3. Minnesota- Might be the best offensive team in the league.
4. Detroit- Scott Mitchell is holding the team back.
5. Chicago- Easily the worst in this division.
NFC West
1. San Francisco- This might be the last run for a veteran team.
2. Atlanta- Fairly good team that will benefit from being in NFC
West.
3. St. Louis- Offense is a big question mark. Could pass Atlanta if
they can put it together.
4. Carolina- Defense is slightly better. Poor offense though.
5. New Orleans- Will be better at the end of the season than they
are at the beginning.
Seeding:
1. Green Bay
2. San Francisco
3. Dallas
4. Tampa Bay
5. Minnesota
6. Washington
AFC East
1. New England- Still the best team, by a fairly large margin.
2. N.Y. Jets- Parcells will have them playing better than what they
should be.
3. Miami- I don't know how well they'll be able to run the ball.
Marino's future is uncertain.
4. Indianapolis- Should improve. Decent offensive tools.
5. Buffalo- Continues rebuilding process.
AFC Central
1. Jacksonville- This is the year they put it all together.
2. Tennesee- McNair now has people to throw to. Finally, legit
HFA.
3. Pittsburgh- Will be competitive from week to week. Talent loss
starting to show though.
4. Cinncnnati- Can Blake regain his form? What about the defense?
5. Baltimore- Still a weak team.
AFC West
1. Denver- No reason to go against defending champs.
2. K.C.- Loss of Allen hurts a lot. Improved team in every other
category though.
3. Seattle- MUST make the playoffs this year.
4. Oakland- Should put a lot of points on the board. However, you
still have to play defense.
5. San Diego- Arizona may end up with 1# overall pick in the draft.
Seeding:
1. Denver
2. Jacksonville
3. N.E.
4. K.C.
5. Tennesse
6. N.Y. Jets
Scott
AFC CENTRAL
1. Jacksonville - Have to establish running game. Paup will help
defense.
2. Tennessee - Going to be good for long time
3. Pittsburgh - D is not what is used to be
4. Cinncinnati - Maybe next year
5. Baltimore - Not as good as last year.
This will be a very competitive division other than Baltimore. I expect
three teams to make the playoffs.
AFC WEST
1. KC Chiefs - Great D & ST's. Offense will be better this year.
Super Bowl Winner.
2. Denver - lost 3 of top 6 offensive lineman
3. Seattle - Ricky will will help them
4. Oakland - Gruden needs more than 1 year
5. San Diego - no explanation needed
KC and Denver are the best teams in the AFC and Seattle will suffer from
having to play them twice but still will contend for the last playoff
spot.
NFC EAST
1. Dallas - experience gives edge
2. Arizona - Thank You San Diego
3. NY Giants - Won't surprise teams this year
4. Washington - Too many ?? marks
5. Philadelphia - 2nd worst team in NFL
Honestly any team other than Philly could win division. I will be
shocked if a wild card team comes from this division.
NFC WEST
1. San Fran - Have become younger and better on Defense thru Free
Agency. Offense will be more potent with Rice back and Jamie Brown will
help running game. My pick to lose to KC in Super Bowl.
2. Carolina - Collins and D will rebound
3. Atlanta - Have to keep Chandler healthy
4. ST Louis - Need a better QB
5. New Orleans - Where's the offense
NFC CENTRAL
1. Packers - FA losses and age will hurt D. Offense still one of
league's best.
2. Tampa - Little better this year. SB next year
3. Vikings - Scary offense. Improved D.
4. Lions - Mitchell mistakes will cost a few wins
5. Bears - Not that bad of team. This is the only division they would
finish last in.
This is all my not so humble opinion. Injuries to stars and signings in
training camp could and probably will affect my predictions.
I agree with most of your picks! The only things I would choose
differently:
a) I think Pittsburgh will still be good enough to claim at least 2nd
place in the NFC Central, and a solid threat to win the AFC
b) either Washington or NYG will finish 2nd in the East, but only because
I have little faith in Arizona. But Plummer will mature rapidly.
c) KC has yet to show us that they can win a big AFC playoff game... I'll
pick Jacksonville or Pittsburgh to return to the SB. Still undecided on
SF or GB in the NFC.

Something like this:
NFC
East
Washington-#1, a tossup between Redskins and Giants
NY Giants
Arizona-most improved team in the league
Dallas-Aikman uneasy in the shotgun
Philadelphia- 4-12
Central
Green Bay
Tampa Bay
Minnesota
Detroit- Sanders "only" 15-1600 yards
Chicago-only good thing: could get a franchise QB in the next draft
West
San Francisco
Atlanta- providing Chris Chandler stays healthy
Carolina
New Orleans
St.Louis
AFC
East
NY Jets
New England
Buffalo- surprise of the year: Rob Johnson
Miami- highly overrated
Indianapolis- with a decent record, say 6-10
Central
Pittsburgh-best trio in the league Bettis/Stewart/Cowher!
Tennessee
Jacksonville
Baltimore
Cincinnati
West
Seattle-with special teams fixed, could go 12-4 in a hard division
Kansas City-great D
Denver-will the new OL work?
Oakland-great offence...
San Diego-we may actually see a team go 0-16!
Wildcards
NFC
Tampa Bay
Minnesota
Atlanta
AFC
Kansas City
Tennessee
Denver/Jacksonville
Super Bowl
Minnesota-Ny Jets

Agree 100% with this division. Dallas and Washington will probably battle the

Gotta go with Tampa here....Dungy will have them more focused than ever and the
offense gets better by the week. Green Bay's age, injuries and free agent
losses makes room for a new NFC champ. Minnesota may even steal this division
if the late-season curse doesnt bite them again. Detroit is a playoff team in
any other division but this one.

Agree here....once again, a soft schedule in a pansy division gives SF a pass
to the playoffs where they will be humbled by a better team (Tampa or GB).
Atlanta could..stress the word COULD make a wild card run but dont you
Georgians get your panties in a bunch yet...

1. Tampa -- may as well be the brave one here
2. SF - see above comments
3. Dallas - back in contention
4. Green Bay - still gets back to the NFC title
game but drops it to Tampa
5. Minnesota - NFC dark horse
6. Washington - 1st round loss

Well, going against the grain here but I say the Pats are overrated. Mediocre
coaching staff at best (they hired ERNIE ZAMPESE, for Gods sake!), and their
best offensive player is in Jersey. Bledsoe has proven on more than one
occassion he cant get the job done, so all that leaves is the defense, which is
very solid but isnt gonna do it alone. Goin' with the Jets to win the
division, probably with a win over the Pats Dec 27 in NJ. THe rest of it is
just details...MAYBE Miami can make a run.

Agree here also....Jacksonville may be the new AFC Champs if Denver slips.
Tennesee and Pitt are gonna fight to the finish for a playoff spot...Cincy and
Baltimore just plain suck.

If Denver stays injury-free not only will they win the division but they will
be back in the Bowl. Kansas City is poised to take it also, but even if they
do look for them to pull their usual choke stunts. Losing Allen will
definitely hurt but not enough to keep them out of Denver's hair. Seattle wont
make it again dont hold your breath. Jon Gruden will get fired after Oakland
doesnt go 13-3 (Al Davis sinks deeper into senility) and San Diego is....well,
San Diego.

Comment if you will, flame if you must.
Correction - the Cleveland Browns will have the #1 overall pick in the
draft. However, i agree that Arizona may end up with #2 or #3 again!

Pats
Bills
Fins
Jets
Colts
This is the only division i really have been watching so
i don't feel right predicting the others.
Last year the Pat's had Curtis Martin but didn't have a commitment to
run.
Their offense was either lucky or devastated. Now they have a New
Offensive Coord.
and I believe that He will have better game plans.
The right corner spot on the Pat's defense could be what keeps them from
the superbowl.
They have plently of talent at RB. that's not as big a deal as some may
think.
Getting an offensive line to jell takes time, even if you get all pros
in there.
The Jets, Colts, and Dolphins will be playing new players in there Off
line.
Those teams may experience a slight drop off this year. except the
Colts.
Colts 7-9
The Colts had the Best front 4 on D in the AFC east by the end of last
season.
They also had song bad play calling, like the Pats, on offensive.
Bills 8-8
I'm not too sure of what is goin on in Buffalo. I don't know who will be
calling the offense
Their defense will be weaker this year.
Jets 7-9
I love Curtis, but I'm afraid that he is gonna get hurt behind that off.
line.
Hugh douglass's DE loss and Graham's (sp) WR loss WILL be felt.
Fins 8-8
They are gonna start getting sick of Jimmy, and their O line needs help.
They're starting to get injuries again like last year too.
Dan and the Dfense should keep them 8-8.
Pat's 10-6
I know I'm a Pats Fan, so I may be bias. Good D and Returning Off. line.

Hello McFly!!!
ERNIE ZAMPESE. Think about that for a second.......ERNIE ZAMPESE is your new
offensive coordinator.
This is the man who, along with Barry Switzer, destroyed the once-best offense
in the NFL of the Dallas Cowboys.
This is the same man who last year EXCESSIVELY called the same friggin' screen
play on 2nd and 10 and 3rd and 13.
This is the man who virtually ignored Michael Irvin for 59 minutes of each game
last season, while he was the only one making gains.
This is the man who was calling the plays that every Cowboy fan (and every
opposing defensive coordinator) could call on their TV screen before it even
happened.
Sorry bud, but hiring this guy (further proving my theory that Bob Kraft is a
mindless dolt) is good for at least 4 or 5 losses alone in '98.
Add to that the departure of Curtis Martin, and the Pats are fighting for a
wild card slot this year.
Any championship hopes the Pats had departed with Bill Parcells, no matter what
moronic, hypocritical and just plain ignorant Boston sports writer tells you
otherwise.
Gee, sounds a lot like Larry Kennan.
Tell me, did you watch the Pats at all last year? I don't see how
Zampese could possibly be worse than the guy he's replacing.
Tell ME, did you see any Cowboys games last year?

I thought Talent had something to do with it. Emmitt? Novacheck? Harper?Let's
double cover Mr. Irvin!
I apologize for the misspelled names

Since Curtis left i find the Boston press to be 51% against the Pat's.

Well, you can blame Ernie, on the demise of the Cowboys, however, it has been
said time & time again, how the Cowboys run basically the same plays, just
that they mix up the plays. Heck, When the Cowboys won their Superbowls, I
think Ernie was there too, the Cowboys pretty much unstoppable, I'm 49er fan,
I would get nervous when the Niners w/play the 'Boys. Nobody @that time, was
criticizing Ernie, then. It was the SAME plays called then also!!! Let's face
it, the O-Line, & the slowness of Emmit Smith who was pretty much abused
then, & that is why Emmit has slowed down. We all know, if you cant run, you
cant pass. You must have a good running game. The 'Boys had an excellent
running game, But, right now, it is a question mark. I dont think you can
blame Ernie for the whole collapse. It is pretty much AGE, & over-abused
runningback & banged up tightend "Novacek" he was great threat. So, lets take
it easy on Ernie. Heck, i dont like the guy just because he used to be w/the
Rams!!

Zampese is wearing one more ring that Kotite ever will. Ditto for the
guy he replaced in New England (Larry Kennan).
