Cedric Hardman and Tommy Hart were great bookend ends. I would take

Wha? no Monte Clark? Siefert should get a lot of consideration. And
Dick Nolan was an excellent coach. I believe Buck Shaw coached the 49ers
in the old, old days.

John Frank really had one good year. Ted Kwalick's the man here
though, but Brent is catching up.

You got this right, I might make Hart-Dean a dead heat though.
Honorable mention to Kevin Fagan, few understand what he brought to
the Niners in their 89-90 championship run.

GET MCKYER OUT OF THERE!!! Johnson-Wright-Lott-Williamson(Carleton
not Fred!) is my dream D-backfield with Jeff Fuller as nickel back.
Deion needs to play a few more years here.

Spurrier (better known as a college coach than player)
was the stopgap between the Brodie and Montana
years (along with a much underrated Steve DeBerg).

Craig made his impact at RB, though his early years alongside
Tyler were at FB. Willard was a true FB.

I knew I forgot someone here [embarrassment]. Francis had some
big years here after New England, but Kwalick was almost
as good a blocker as Francis but a much better receiver (like
Brent Jones, he would kill opponents on deep routes).

> >And certainly Stubblefield and Young will soon make this list.

Krueger was definitely deserving of mention. He brings back
memories of old grizzled DTs, spitting on OL men as they
drag down RBs attempting to go through. I believe Krueger
would have been a great DT alongside Alex Karras. ;-)
Still, I wonder if he would have been fast enough for today's
game?

> LB Jack Reynolds / Frank Nunley
> LB Dave Wilcox

Nunley as MLB was an inspired pick. Another "throwback" player...
tough, grizzled. I briefly considered Dave Wilcox here...
certainly the 49ers best OLB of his time, but I can remember
a number of games when he would pad his tackles by being the
last man on the pile.

I am surprised noone named my favorite kicker... Steve Mikameyer (sp?),
known affectionately as Steve Miss-a-mile". Made Cofer even seem
like a great kicker (to be honest, Cofer had a few good years).

Your list was pretty acurate and good choices, by the way iam the biggest 49ner
fan on the planet, seriously. ok anyways the only changes i would dois:

TE would have to be Dwight Clark, if you can remeber "The catch" in the 1984
championship game agaisnt Dallas, which is probably what put him over the top
of the rest.
RB Ricky Watters wasnt really there long enough to establish himself in SF,
anyways hes a greedy player.
SS ronnie Lott played Strong Saftey

P and as for punters your right i dont think in all of the 49ners history has
there been a predominant punter who would stand out. pete

What the hell are you talking about. The biggest Niner fan???????
Dwight Clark was definately a wide receiver, not a tight end. By the way,
THE CATCH was in the 1981 champiuonship game against Dallas, not '84.
And Ronnie Lott started his career as a cornerback when he was drafted in '81.
Some time in the early 80's he moved to free safety. The first time he
played SS was with the Raiders in '92!
I admire how much the biggest 49er fan knows about the team!

P.S. You POSSIBLY MAY be right about Watters!!

P.S. Were you really serious?

Good grief - What a wealth of misinformation about the 49ers.

Dwight Clark was not a TE, he was a wide receiver and a good one.

Ted Kwalick was a dreadful blocker; he was really a wide receiver in a
tight-ends body.

Ken Willard could do one thing well - run straight ahead.

Some of the neglected names that come to mind as candidates for me are:

WR: Billy Wilson
FB: John Henry Johnson
RB: J.D. Smith, Delvin Williams
OL: John Thomas, Bruce Bosley
QB: Y.A. Title

DL: Leo Nomellini, Tommy Hart
PUNTER: Tommy Davis
DB: Dave Baker

These were all great 49ers.

If you are considering Wilson as an alltime great 49er with the

gee, didn't Jim(wristbands) Hart play here a couple years? Niners
have had a wealth of great QBs, but they're topped out by Brodie and
Montana. Everyone else gets mentioned honorably but not
all-timingly. Young shall join the list in several years.

I reluctantly pulled Hart off my list in favor of Carter.

They were all fine 49ers, yes, this looks like a list of the alltime
Burger King franchise owners in the Bay Area though.

Unless I'm losing my eyesight, it seems nobody has mentioned halfback
Hugh "the King" McIlhenny (sp?) yet - I'm pretty sure he's in the HOF.
And true '9er fans (not the ones who think Dwight Clark was a DE or
whatever!)
will never forget RB Paul Hofer (not Cofer) who gave his all during the
dark days of '78-'79 when a .500 season seemed like an impossible dream.
Sadly, his career was cut short by injury just as we saw the light at the
end
of the tunnel.

I believe your right the 49ers really haven't had a real punter. But
they have what it takes to be right there every season. With the additon
of Deon Sanders, Ricky Watters, they were unstopable. Watch for a repeat
season in 1995!!
