The Niners won. whew. No big injuries. Great games out of Eric
Davis, and Steve Young, and a super job by the O line, considering
the time they've had together. Credit the Niner offense with
finally stopping Jerome Bettis.

I have to admire those few, those happy few, ye band of brothers
that are still rooting for the Rams. I don't know what I would
have thought in '80 if Eddie DeBartolo had hired back Dick Nolan
to coach the Niners.

where ARE the Bay Area Ram fans? In the SF Bay Area, there used to
be quite a few of them years ago - they were fans drawn to the
Fearsome Foursome - they sort of followed the Dodgers right into
football season. It was especially hard when the Niners had
Spurrier, a year or two of Hart, then into DeBerg. We had a great D
line, a tight end or two worth talking about. The Rams fans did the
talking though.

I think the Rams fans became Chief Montana fans, that's where they
went. Here's how they evolved:

Late 60s: Became Rams fans with the SI covers of Deacon Jones and
the rest of the Fearsome Foursome. They were mostly people who
rooted for the Dodgers since they rightly guessed the Giants would
never ever win the World Series. It allowed them to keep all their
Dodger/Ram blue stuff.

Early 70s Hesitated on the Rams show a bit when the Niners had a
very good team that lost the championship game to Staubach comeback.
rooted for America's Team briefly. How bout them Dolphins though?

Late 70s Rams rams rams. They made a super bowl appearance in
there somewhere and the Niners were going down fast. The Joe Thomas
years were the Bay Area Ram fans glory years.

Early 80s The Raiders came on strong with the '78 show appearance
(finally dropping the old: 'can't win the big one' while the Rams
struggled with QB controversies- Ferragamo?). No problem to don the
Silver and Black, especially after that miracle '80 season where
Plunky took them all the way. While these guys were cheering wildly
for the Raiders, Dwight Clark and Eric Wright made some impressive
grabs in a game at Candlestick to sneak in a SB win.

Mid Eighties. These Ram fans were shaking their heads. Damn, how
could the Niners win two shows? Well, it's good for the Bay Area
anyway. Gosh, that Joe Montana is pretty good, but it's the system
that makes him good and the rest of the NFC is so weak.

later mid 80s. Montana is washed up - no good. Niners should start
this new guy - Young. Rams are coming on strong again - we should
win it all. Put that blue back on.

Late 80s. Man that Montana is pretty damn good. Cut us apart in
the championship game. Shoot.

Early 90s. As I said, Montana is the greatest QB of all time - I
said that all along, I did. Niners should trade that loser, Young.

Mid 90s CHIEFS! go CHIEFS! Go JOE! JOE JOE JOE JOE YAAAAAAEEEYY!!

(end with song)
where have all the Rams fans gone?
long time passing
where have all the Rams fans gone?
long time ago
where have all the Rams fans gone?
gone to Montana every one
how can you ever lose?
how can you ever lose?

Go Niners

Mike,

I am a 49ers fan. However, I am also a Montana fan (thus a Chiefs fan).
Anyway, I predict before the season starts two things:
1) Chief will win the head-to-head game against 49ers.
2) 49ers will win the Super Bowl.
BTW, I was never ever a (Any city) Frontiere lambs fan.

Don't need the Angels, we already have a shitty baseball team. We're
just looking for a crappy football team to root for in our beautiful new
downtown stadium.
