Having lived all my life in Buffalo, I am a Bills fan. (And suffered through
some horrendous years.) But I am also a Chargers fan (yea, I know, I know).
In the Fouts days they had one of the most exciting offenses ever. And that
game against the fish was probably the greatest game played ever, by both
teams. Toward the end, Winslow was so exhausted he had to be held up between
plays. (And I always thought the Chargers uniforms were the coolest in the
NFL, especially the lightning bolt around the shoulder.)

I'm from Seattle, and wasn't a big football fan when I was growing up
(they didn't have a team then). Then just before I moved out of town,
the Seahawks were born. I followed them slightly for a few years,
and was proud of them when they set a new record for "shortest time
an expansion team took to have a winning season." Whenever I'd visit
home for Christmas I'd see Jim Zorn and Steve Largent doing milk
commercials on the local stations, and the Seattle fans were enjoying
just having a team.

Once they got better (early 80's had some great years) I started wishing
for them to go to the Super Bowl but it never happened... now they're
mediocre-to-bad again, and my desire to root for the underdog has taken
over. Also, I've got so much Seahawks paraphenalia (jackets, hats,
earrings, sunglasses, flags) that I have to be their fan, it would be
too expensive to collect so much other team's stuff.

Also, (final reason) I moved to the Denver area 12 years ago and it is
just too much fun to harass the local Bronco fans when Seattle beats them.
Of course that hasn't happened much lately, but it's worth the wait
when it does!

O.K., I'll bite. I grew up in a small town in central Virginia and
never lived near enough to a pro football team to go to games. Now that
I live here in Denver, it's a whole new world. I can
go to Mile High Stadium, get a good single seat a couple of weeks before
any game, and scream my head off with the "Barrel Man" and the rest of
the 76,000 Broncomaniacs. All this and skiing, too!

Then there's Elway. What can I say? The guy can do things that no
other quarterback can do. He doesn't always win games (that's for
sure), but you NEVER KNOW when he's in there. It's exciting.

Then there's the home team thing you mentioned. Sure, half of the
Broncos are millionaires or half-millionaires, but they're OUR
millionaires! <GRIN> I never could undestand someone rooting for
another city's team, unless, of course, one is recently transplanted
from that other city. Where is their civic pride? And if they don't
have any, why aren't they living in the city they root for? I
unabashedly love being a Denverite. Rooting for the Donkeys comes
naturally.

GO BRONCOS!

I became a Packer fan, not by choice ... at first, but accidently. When I
was five years old, I knew nothing about football and even less about the
teams, but there were three older boys on the school bus that were always
talking about football and they sat behind me every day to and from school.
We were living in Germany at the time in a little town 1 1/2 hours each way
from Wiesbaden, where the school was, ... 3 hrs a day of listening to
these guys. I was very shy and seldom spoke to them at all until after our
Christmas break...my uncle sent me a Green Bay Packer Jersey for Christmas.
I didn't know anything about football, much less the Packers, but God forbid
... a Packer fan was born and I soon argued my lungs out that the Steelers
sucked, as they beat the shit out of everyone. By the time I was old enough
to comprehend what was going on with the game...about fourth or fifth grade
I guess, the Packers weren't doing so well. After a while, I began to
identify with them as I saw Lynn Dickey and the Packers lose close games
they should have won, Lofton make just spectacular catches...Jefferson too,
and Coffman, but just like me (the smallest guy in the class...4'2" at 13
for crying out loud - never got picked playing football, always the last
pick) they didn't get the respect they deserved, at least in Hampton, VA,
where I grew up they didn't. Anyway, I just stuck with them ... just because
they're always thaaaaaaaat close ... and I do know football now.

Is it possible to get two adjacent seats? I have been looking for tickets and am
willing to make the flight to Denver for a game.

Maybe I love Austin and currently have an outstanding job there.

Well I have never lived in Denver but have been a big fan since the mid seventies.
I am 26 years old and currently reside in Austin, Texas. I lived most of my life
in New Orleans but was never a Saints fan. I don't particularly like New Orleans as
a city. Anyhow, I became a Bronco fan at a young age primarily due to by grandparent's
friendship with All-Pro cornerback Steve Foley who retired after the Denver - New York
Superbowl. I am a huge John Elway fan. As a previous poster said, how can you not like
him. He is truly incredible.
