In the lead up to the AFL Grand Final between the Sensational saints
and the catapulting crows make sure you come and visit the
world's first and only web page dedicated to the world's
most exciting sporting event that attracts 100,000 people.

It is still being constructed but i would love ideas and opinions that
will make it a good informative website. Currently it has G.F. facts on
all teams (unfortunatly this years teams don't have much to factuwise
about) but your all invited for a gander at a page not due to be
complete till march 98.

AFL G.F's : http://minyos.its.rmit.edu.au/~adammac

Remember Abuse, Critism, Opinions are all welcome. The guestbook is up
shit creek so prefebly send the comments direct.

Hi spanky, did anyone ever tell you that we tar and feather those who
post here about the faggy sport with the short shorts.

Little Rugby wankers. Haven't seen you draw 100,000 to an ARL final
lately. Or do you have a secret place? Sorry I forgot. Victoria holds both
the Rugby League (88,000) and Rugby union (91,000) Australian attendance
records.

Money won't bite into out game.

Now go and sweep yourselves under a rug or something.. we don't want some
small minority trying to stop Aussie Rules invading the old Rugby
terriotory.

GO SAINTERS!!!!!! DOn't LET THE CROWS WIN!!!

Adam.

I would too, how dare any sport that can attract more than 300 people to
a first-grade match post to rec.sport.bozoball, oh, sorry, *league*. Go
back to your poker-machine backed-up giving it grunt no-brainer game.

Came pretty close though didn't it? And all your "people's game" crap
would have counted for nought in the face of Kerry and Rupert's battle
for profit from Docklands.

So why crosspost to aus.sport.rugby-league, paritcularly since you know
we don't give a toss what you think? Did we invite you in here? It's you
who are invading *our* territory. So do us all a favour and don't post in
here. Right?

Yeah right...league the great international sport? The AFL aren't really
flogging it O/S...league on the other hand has been making feeble
attempts to combat rah-rah popularity O/S for decades. It's a poor
second cousin to Rugby Union and the only reason NSW League clubs have
had influence is NSW poker machine laws...pretty easy to prop up a
poorly attended spectator sport when you have grannies and Asian's
flogging the lot on the bandits. Victoria and its VFL survived over
hundred years on loyalties alone. Union survived on popularity and
traditions. Rugby League has an uphill battle making inroads in rah-rah
terrotories like the RSA or France...really, league, for an
"international" sport is played professionally in what? Here, NZ and
Great Britain with half-arsed attempts in PNG and France.
Australian Rules doesn't flog itself as an international sport. It's an
Australian game and for that you should be proud rather than knocking
it. Divisions and the pursuit of the dollar bill have ruined Rugby
League to the farce it currently is. You have shot yourselves in the
foot.

Is that right? Poor? We were professional long before union and we still
get bigger crowds than uion matches.

Compared to union, league is played professionally in at least two of
the heartlands.

> Here, NZ and

Just like those damn Swans, certain areas need to build up. The South
Melbourne-I mean-Sydney Swans weren't exactly a HEEEEUGE success in
Sydney when they started up.

Im not proud that some dumb Victorian pansies, too scared to play any of
the rugby codes or soccer, had to start up this paltry "sport". VFL is
not Australian. Its Victorian.

Id say you are strangely correct on one front there. However, Rugby
League is not a farce. I''ll tell you what a farce is. the Victorian
areial ping pong is the only sport in the world where you get points for
missing. THATs a farce!

btw homebush will seat 110,000 for the olmpics... then it will be

FACT: Nelson Mandella has adopted Australian Rules as the new trial sport
in search for south africa to find a game that will unite it's "BLACK AND
WHITE" population. If successful in it's trial province (which i believe
it is to date) it will be adopted as the new "NATIONAL SPORT" of south
africa. So suck shit loser. AFL is taking over the world!

2001. Johanesbourg South Africa. Australia Take on the Safrican's. For the
first time in S.A. history black and white unite on the same team, to
represent their country. The world wide media all converge to witness
nelson mandella's vision for a nation. All thanks to the game some nothern
state wankers rejected. If that don't give you a little buzz, what does?

Well well well Mexican, Poofter Football is not "THE Australian game"!
Just like RL, until it cuts down on the Mexican teams in the premier
compeition, it will not be truly Australian. But, just like Poofter
Football, RL is played in every state, but not in the main competition.

This just goes to show there are a huge number of very, very boring people
in Melbourne. I mean for goodness sake, going to this place to hear the
team names being read out! Sounds tedious. Don't they have radios or TVs
or something over there yet?

Aussie Rules may well not be a "bad" sport in your opinion but it won't
TAKE OVER THE WORLD, as you put it, until the name is changed. Can you
imagine a game called "Aussie Rules" taking over in New Zealand?! Of
course not, the very name inspires disdain from any right thinking person.
How about Britain? Can you imagine it taking off there either, Aussie
Rules? Come on!

The Hey Rugby (Union) brigade played a wee game in Melbourne not so long
ago as I recall which turned a few people through the gate. I doubt if
that many people would turn up to Twickenham, Eden Park, Loftus Versfeld,
etc to watch a game largely played amongst Melburnian suburbs which no one
outside Noogubingarooroo or Collingston whatever the hell it is they call
themselves would have heard of.

Look, it's a lovely, quirky little sport, and I support your well
intentioned statements to expand the competition a little. I think it's
great that local culture survives so well in these little isolated
pockets, it makes the world so much more interesting.

I hope you have a lovely day on Saturday or whenever this game is as well.
As far as global domination goes, though, well, the globe is a bit bigger
than Sydney or Adelaide you know?

Have a happy day and I wish the Saints all the luck in the world. They
sound like a very nice bunch of chaps.

Certain things make you cringe in life.........American's high fat

WTF are you on about you rugby retard?? What is this Mexican crap???

Honestly, if you're representative of the average intellect of the
rugby mob then I'm surprised you can all find your way to the bloody
ground on a weekend.

Besides, you're all a mob of arse sniffers anyway. (What is with this
scrum/pack shit anyway?) Why do they call you 'earthquake'. I take
you 'make the earth move' for your teammates...

Or is it just 'cause you're a fatarse??

Yes, and if everyone of them had the intellect that you do, it's hardly
surprising that they all ended up at a tennis center instead of a RL
ground. Perhaps it was felt that it was a more appropriate venue for those
who draw their your vocabulary in the best traditions of McEnroe, Nastase,
Agassi, and company.

All through my youth -- up until four years ago, in fact -- I thought that
rugby league was my winter code of choice. Because, you know, I live in
the heart of the St George district so how could it be otherwise?

Then, probably partway through the '93 grand final, I made an interesting
discovery.

Rugby league is extremely boring.

This discovery probably had a lot to do with Carlton vs Collingwood,
although it could just have been Collingwood vs Essendon.

I think the TV ratings in Sydney say it all when it comes to which sport Sydney
people want to see the ARL grand final had over 1.6 million viewers (making
it one of the most watched program this year so far) the AFL draw about 1/2 a
million. The ARL grand final which included no Brisbane team easily out rated
the AFL in Brisbane also. I'd be interested in how many viewers the AFL & ARL
had in Melbourne.

So you gentleman would like to discuss the popularity of the contact
-football derived sports,
well:
aerial pingpong - 'haven't i got a pretty bottom let me jump up and put
it in you face' AFL - played and supported as a mainstream sport only in
a country of 16 million

crash and bash - 'if the world's greatest minds were locked in a room
and told they couldn't come out until they developed the perfect game to
be played and watched by mental defectives they would produce '
LEAGUE - played and supported by two Australian states as a mainstream
sport, three New Zealand provinces (combined pop. ~ 2 million) as an
almost mainstream sport, and the North of England.

schizo football -'i'm a rugby player, i'm a soccer player, i'm an
aussie rules player, i'm a rugby player ......'- gaelic football - where
the hell's Gael anyway?

coach tvfootball -'hurry up and take this next down will you Montana
we've got twenty seconds to the next commercial, our wide receiver is
coming down from that last line of coke, the scrimmage line are looking
for some more raw meat, and if i beat the spread at halftime i take a cool
million at Vegas. Now take four steps back, three across, bend your elbow,
pull your arm back ...' GRIDIRON played and supported as a mainstream
sport in the USA (and so i am told played some Americans in Europe
too...?)

formerly the world's biggest amateur game soon to be the world's
biggest (well maybe second biggest) when Nike sponsor the All Blacks in
1999 and put pictures of Christian Cullen and Jonah Lomu in Times Square -
RUGBY UNION - played as a mainstream sport in New Zealand, England,
South Africa, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Japan, Canada, Australia, the
Pacific Islands, Argentina, Rumania, with more than 100 affiliated
countries and probably only second to soccer (and possibly basketball?) in
organized team numbers.

Only the biggest football game in Australia. And the only one, the other

Rubbish. This stereotype is way out of date now.

The Great British export to Marbella, Ibiza and all has been educated by
such noble concerns such as "Vesta", "McCain's" and "Ross Foods" as to
the exotic and tasty local foods available once on holiday au Continent,
and are happy - nay ecstatic - to order such local delicacies as paella,
grilled sardines, or Baba Gounesh (sp?).

As long as there's a big bottle of tomato ketchup to dip it in.

Hell Adam! have you ever heard the expression taking the Piss????? I was
merely aussie bashing and I see you took it so personally, never mind
mate you play your game and well play ours. Besisde I actually like
Gaelic football so Aussies rules might not be that bad afterall. And
besides if Im a KIWIFRUIT what does that make you? A baby Kangeroo that
thats blinded by the light shining out of the arse of Victoria? ifs its
any consolation I dont eat fish and chips (note the pronounciation) and
sheep are my thing unless theyre roasted on a plate.
Dont worry about the cricket practice our peice of shit team cant even
beat a bunch of lolloygaggers called Zimbabwe so I feel a hiding coming,
but to be fair we must let you guys win something.

Why does the Ozzie accent have such a whining whinge to it?

Don't know? Never been there, huh?
I'd whine like hell too if I came from a place;
- Populated from the dregs of England,
- Where the national leader had a doper for a kid and
then cried like a baby on national TV,
- Where the national entry into an international boat
(The Americas Cup, won by NZ,) race broke in half and sank,
- Whose pinnical of cinema is "Strickly Ballroom"
- Who seek a national identity through "Crocodile Dundee",
(or "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert"!!)
- Whose judiciary were convinced a dingo came into a tent,
stole and ate a baby, and then neatly folded its matinee jacket,
- Where whores who gave 'freebies' to coppers enlist in the police,
- Whose best acting exports are Kylie Minogue, Dannii Minogue,
and Jason Donovan,
- Who would elect Joh Biejkle-Petersen.
