Here are my last minute picks for the opening week of the football
season. I will have computerized picks starting about a third of
the way through the season, since there have been so many changes
during the offseason and the effects of them can't really be seen
from the preseason.

Game Winner Straight Up Winner A/S
CHIEFS 3 over Saints Chiefs Chiefs
Joe looks like he might last the season, but my guess is 12 games.
Chiefs 27-20

GIANTS 3 over Eagles Eagles Eagles
Randall vs. Dave (?). Even with Randall's injured elbow and Brown's
preseason performance, Randall gets the nod.
Eagles 21-13

PACKERS 3.5 over Vikings Packers Packers
Sterling's playing. 'Nuff said.
Packers 24-17

LIONS 5.5 over Falcons Lions Falcons
I still don't think Sanders will score more than 6-7 TDs this year.
Lions 20-16

Oilers 3 over COLTS Oilers Oilers
Isn't Harbaugh the Colts' quarterback? That's enough reason to pick
against them.
Houston 28-17

REDSKINS 1.5 over Seahawks Seahawks Seahawks
The only reason the Redskins are favored is because they are home.
Seattle 17-10

Browns 4 over BENGALS Browns Browns
David Shula may be looking for a job at the end of this season.
Browns 13-7

BEARS 6.5 over Buccaneers Bears Bears
The Bears have improved. The Bucs haven't.
Bears 24-14

Cowboys 5.5 over STEELERS Cowboys Cowboys
The Boys want to give Barry a good first showing.
Cowboys 31-20

DOLPHINS 5 over Patriots Dolphins Dolphins
Dan's back. Is it for good?
Dolphins 27-17

BILLS 7 over Jets Bills Bills
Strive for five? Hey, you never know.
Bills 30-21

Cardinals 5.5 over RAMS Cardinals Cardinals
Look for the Rams to break double digits in scoring only if Bettis
has a 100+ yard game.
Cardinals 20-10

BRONCOS 7 over Chargers Broncos Broncos
Anthony Miller will burn his old team, badly.
Broncos 34-17

49ERS 7 over Raiders 49ers 49ers
How many people don't think the 49ers are going to win the Super Bowl?
Put your hand down, Mr. Davis.
49ers 37-24

Yes, if I lost a few more.

I was 9-5 straight up and 8-6 against the spread.
If I was betting on these, I'd have made money, albeit barely.

Not only that, I beat r.s.f.p.'s beloved CALIFORNIA KENT in both
categories. (He was 8-6 Straight Up, 7-7 ATS).

And no one in the Ed/KENT/Po challenge had a better record.
It's not something to show off as a trophy, but it's not something
to be ashamed of either.

Just curious, now that I've seen the actual results, are you going to
post your record or slip away quietly?

I'm not about to slip away quietly, I already posted it once.
I was 9-5 straight up, and 8-6 against the spread.
Not exactly something to show off, but I would have made money.
(Just barely)
