My mom has always had a very loose grip on reality. When she experiences stress, that grip with reality becomes like two surfaces interacting via friction. Suddenly, the increase in energy breaks the hold of the friction and my mom's imagination begins to slide along and generate all kinds of great delusions. My personal favorite was when she kicked me out of the house as a teenager because, and I quote "there is only one explanation for the way you act ... you are POSSESSED BY DEMONS!!!!!"

The recent kerfluffle over gun rights after the Aurora, CO shootings convinced my mom that Obama himself was going to personally visit her house and rend from her the very rights to purchase assault weapons that Thomas Jefferson handed down to her on the tablets of stone from Mount Vernon. So of course she went out and bought an AR-15.

I can sleep safe at night now, knowing that a psychotic woman has purchased a semi-automatic assault rifle with a 40-round magazine simply because she personally identified with the Aurora, CO shooter with the blessings and encouragement of Fox News. Keep up the great work guys!

You really are part of the problem.

Every fiream I own but one is semi-automatic and built for assault.

Shotgun - semi-auto, used to assault migratory fowl
Pistol - semi-auto, used to assault targets (poorly)
Rifle - semi-semi-auto (bolt-action), used to assault big game from

1. Why aren't you screaming about banning box cutters? They were
used to kill a few thousand poeple just a few years ago?

2. If your mom is really a problem, then you need to call the
authorities.

Otherwise, I stand by my Frantic Lefty comment.

I suppose if we had various box cutter attacks at the same rate as
theater shootings or campus shootings or workplace shootings then
there'd be more call for box cutter *regulations*. Not bannings.

By the way, mentioning that there should be more gun regulation could
be called "screaming about..." if you're opposed to that regulation
but is, of course, an editorial comment. It's a phrase that could be
replaced by "suggesting" or "discussing" but then it wouldn't be all
huffy and puffy. Ironically, using that sort of talk is, itself,
"screaming".

Why do accept that it's not legal to bring a loaded gun onto a

I don't think guns should be banned from planes at the federal level.
The airlines would be insane to let average Joes carry them on, and
I doubt I would fly the airline that let them.

As far as police, federal agents, and active duty military, it would
probably be a good idea, and would have helped greatly on 9/11.
In this day and age, it should not be hard verifying who they are.

Interesting. I'm an expert shot with both pistol and rifle, but I've
always found pistol shooting to be significantly easier.

What sort of range are you talking about? What type of sight picture do
you use, with what part of your finger do you pull the trigger, etc?

For me, it's primarily disinterest and (lack of) practice.

I actually use my rifle, shotgun, and bow for hunting so I expect to
be proficient.

My pistol is for fun with my friends. It seems that my inability to
hit what I'm aiming at makes it quite more fun for them.

I don't get to define who is a threat to society and who is not. I don't get to define the rules on gun ownership. All I'm doing is pointing out that psychotic individuals are not currently excluded from purchasing guns that will potentially empower them to kill several dozen people. I'm sorry that by pointing it out I have caused you to have a hissyfit, but thems the facts.

Thats one reason I lock my weapons up (though not the main reason).
They'd need a torch to get into my gunsafe. Could someone do
it...sure. It won't be a smash and grab job though and they will
likely grab what the can and leave. Most every gun owner I know has
some sort of gun safe. Certainly not all gun owners though.

Btw, since it apparently went over your head, the "wow" was your idea
that we can't own things because there is a risk that someone might
take them from us. Better not own automobiles either, in case some
kids steal it for a joy ride and run down grandma. Better not own a

I'd say thats might problem as well. We shoot handguns a couple times
a year...shotgun is out nearly every week during fall and winter and
we shoot some skeet at family gatherings the rest of the year. I just
enjoy shooting rifles.

I'd say I pull my pistol trigger with the fingerprints center of my
index finger, though I can't say for sure without getting it out.

Major? I doubt it.

I am talking about military style semi-automatic rifles, aka assault
weapons. No use except to kill humans and act as a penis extension
for gun nuts.

To suggest that a computer or an automobile present similar immediate
harm as an assault rifle is silly.

Getting someone declared incompetent isn't a picnic. Much easier to just shoot 'em.

Not really, just spout off on Facebook. (see thread"think what you

<I don't get to define who is a threat to society and who is not.

And for good reason. You mom is competent till proved otherwise.

<I don't get to define the rules on gun ownership. All I'm doing is pointing out that psychotic individuals are not currently

Not true. I'm pretty sure you can take your mom to court and have a
judge order her not to own guns.

Assuming, of course, you can prove she is "psychotic". The problem
is that you probably can't prove that beyond you own theoretical
mental masturbation.

Nor should it be.

Well make an anarchist out of you yet.

When I lived in a rural area, I didn't have a local shooting range.

I'm assuming he was a rural gunsmith?

Generally, the military uses automatic rifles. A reasonable
difference, but honestly unimportant except to those who think the
appearance of a firearm somehow makes it more/less deadly.

Insults in lieu of an argument?

Really? People killed by vehicles >>>>>>>>>>>>>> people killed by
firearms - yet we let any old moron drive a car.

We do require registration, a license, and insurance though. And
license plates to make the owner of a car identiable. And we
routinely take the right away from people who have seizures, become
incapacitated, or violate certain laws.

Hmmm, I'd happy take the same regime for guns as we have for driving.

An AR-15 can make a terrific target rifle.

By the way, the use of (so-called) assault rifles in crime is rare.

We don't take the right to own a car away from anyone.

I understand that you blame Fox News but am surprised you didn't blame
President Bush as well. You left wing loons usually link the two when
trying to draw attention away from Obama's miserable record, failed
economic policies and lack of leadership. BTW, you do realize that
President Bush has been out of office for four (4) years and that
Democrats controlled Congress, the Senate and all of the banking, finance
and home mortgage committees for the last two (2) years of the Bush
administration.

Irish Mike

"I will make no excuses". Presidential candidate Barak Obama. LOL. I'm
sorry, but it's hard to type that broken campaign promise and not laugh
out loud. I mean, seriously, is there any one, or any thing, that Obama
has not blamed for his miserable record?
