She decided on Macalaster in St. Paul for a wide variety of reasons
and she can't wait.

Our pre-school granddaughter graduated last Friday. She is enrolled in
classes at the Family Y for the summer. The program is pretty amazing.

My question...

She can read which surprises me. In my era we could but I thought kids
now didn't learn to read until the first grade. What is your
experience?

If I need help with my iPhone I ask her!

I did! She's a bit granola and I think it's great. If she wasn't
idealistic at her age, then I'd have done something wrong. Plenty of
time for her to learn to be bitter and cynical like her old man.

I could read before kindergarten, but most of my friends couldn't. I
had the benefit of a mother and grandmother who were teachers and my
grandmother lived with us when i was preschool age.

I don't think we were taught reading in earnest until first grade.

Kindergarten is now where they teach reading.
