I'm thinking Brooklyn. It seemed Dodger fan took it harder than Giants
Fan.
When the Oilers left, folks here were really bitter. Even though
Houston is a weak-ass fan town. Bud Adams was such a dick, screwing
the team by forcing hold outs year after year, then the debacle in
Buffalo... and then Adams, after we had paid for the Dome upgrades he
held us over a barrel for, freaking bailed anyway.
Baltimore Colts fan? Leaving in the middle of the night is cold.
New Orleans Jazz? Minneapolis Lakers? St. Louis Cardinals (NFL)?

I'm sure the same would happen with any team if the move was announced
mid season.
I, for one, was happy to see Art Model leave my state.

because you won't miss them all that much. In Milwaukee, they are
talking that the 20 yo Bradley Center is obsolete and that a new arena
might need to be built.
There isn't much support for it frankly.

I don't think Brooklyn got screwed. Ebbetts Field was too small and
had no parking. The owners wanted to build a new stadium on their
own, with no public money involved, but the city of New York wanted
them in Queens and not Brooklyn. LA stepped in and the rest is
history.
Furthermore, MLB should have been quicker to respond to an increased
market for their product and expanded anyway.

No, within the next five years Seattle will have been the new Oklahoma
City, held up as an attractive place for an owner who isn't getting what
he wants from the city leadership in Memphis, Orlando, Milwaukee, etc.

There wasn't much gnashing of teeth around here when they left. And
everyone figured that one of Busch people would step up and get a
franchise moved here or get an expansion team. Sure enough, James
Busch Orthwein (a Busch cousin and, IIRC, the largest A-B shareholder)
and Jerry Clinton (A-B distributor) were major players in the
shenanigans to get the Dome at America's Center built and secure a
team.

The Cardinals had never won anything before, and haven't yet. And
don't seem likely to anytime soon, either.
Statistically there must have been a few people who moved from St. Louis
to Phoenix that year. I wonder if they feel blessed or cursed?

My problem with this is that PDX vs. SEA is one of the
better rivalries in the NBA. Moving the Blazers to Seattle
would be a pyrrhic victory for that city. They need a
franchise out of some city that's proven it can't support
an NBA team, like Oklahoma City.

Gotta be the Winnipeg Jets and Quebec Nordiques. Both teams had
phenomenal attendance and a rabid fan base...except that Bettman was
hard-on to grow hockey in the US south, so he greased the skids for
those teams to leave.
