Butthurt.

Granted, I don't know who you backed, so I won't jump to conclusions.
Also, I don't back every bit of Obama's proposals..

Yet, I can't really feel sorry *for the majority* of people who are
upset he won.

Regardless, let the bungling be heard! He has the likes of Quayle and
Bush Jr. to compare with over tripped up sentences and words.

I couldn't vote for prez until two elections later. I woulda

I've only voted for the winner of preznit twice, in my first

No they don't. Biden makes gaffes on policy, but that is
different than mangling the English language the way George Bush Jr.
does, with non-existent words and non-parsing sentences. And Obama
certainly doesn't mangle the language. Being ignorant on the subject
of a Mexican holiday is not mangling the English language. It's being
ignorant on the subject of a Mexican holiday.

You wingnuts might get more traction if you stuck to the
criticisms that are actually valid.

First, it's obviously worse to make gaffes on policy. Second, both
Obama and Biden gaffe the language worse, too.

They are worse on both dimensions. But thanks for clarifying the
existence of the two dimensions they are worse on.

Precisely the point I'm making, and all the more reason to stick
to criticizing the gaffes that either Obama or Biden actually make.

Uh, no they don't. But thanks for playing. And keep on
pretending that Obama and/or Biden butcher the English language like
Bush does--doing so will continue to discredit anything else you might
have to say.

The only Americans (me included) who give a shit about Cinco de
Mayo are drinkers. Obama, for all intents and purposes, does not
drink.

That in no way excuses his not knowing about the holiday,
however--I'm just saying that unless you drink and party, you probably
never paid any attention to Cinco de Mayo. Explains it, but doesn't
excuse it.

You may argue that a President should be able to answer any
complicated spontaneous question glibly, much like a stud sweet-

pausing to think out loud is still not mangling the English language.
For that, see George Bush.

The point being, that if "Barry" is to receive any legitimate
criticism about his use of language, it certainly isn't going to be
from the likes of you.

This isn't a language problem to begin with. It is a lack of
education about Mexican culture.

Maybe if you had command of English (nevermind a second
language), your little potshots at "Barry" might be more on target.
Claiming that Obama should be aware of enough Mexican culture to know
about the Cinco de Mayo holiday is a valid criticism. Doing a wingnut
Hannity impression and bleating OBAMA LACKS L1NGU1STIK SKILL5 W0RS3
THAN BUSH!!@!! just makes YOU look ridiculous.

Your silly claims that Obama is supposed to suddenly overnight
become fluent in Spanish just because during the campaign he lamented
that American education in foreign language is lax is equally silly (I
mean, silly beyond the fact that this isn't a language problem in the
first place). In the campaign, Obama pointed out that it's a shame
most Americans (including him) were not very good at foreign
languages. As a result of pointing that out, he's suddenly supposed
to learn Spanish overnight by osmosis to justify his criticism and not
be H1PPOCR1T1CAL!!@!!? Was learning a second language (a task that
takes most of us the 8 years of high school and college) supposed to
have been on Obama's first 100 days agenda?

On the other hand, the POTUS should indeed be familiar with
basic culture of our immediate neighbors, and thus should know about
the Cinco de Mayo holiday. You might want to consider sticking to
that basic fact (without any silly embellishments) if you want your
criticism to be effective.

Knowing about it and caring about it are two different things. My
point was lack of awareness. I believe you agreed.

If our OH so "worldly" president with his Masters in Jurisprudence is
so IGNORANT of the most elementary, basic terms of the language of our
closest neighbor, Ralph, maybe he should just stick to reading the
teleprompter and try not to improvise.

I didn't excuse Obama not knowing about Cinco de Mayo holiday. I
didn't make any excuses whatsoever. I said it was a valid criticism.

I don't speak another language. I took a year of Spanish in high
school and a year of Spanish in college, but never used it. I *do*,
however, have a basic competency in the elementary terms and usage of
the Spanish language. Like numbers, days, months, etc. As well as
the knowledge as to how many basic Spanish verbs are conjugated.

But, of course, *I* am not the one in the bully pulpit insisting how
EMBARASSING it is among my elite European friends that we American
hillbillies are so vulgar not to speak a second or even a third
language.

Like your buddy Barry.

I took Latin, French ans Spanish. If college had taken more than 3 1/4
years I would have taken German.

I am not fluent in any of the above but I got by, as posted elsewhere,
in Cuba and Mexico. I usually greet Mexicans in Spanish if they appear
to be clean and well-mannered. They respond in Spanish and seem to
apprecite my speaking to them.

The word is "competence," you blithering idot.

And it *is* embarrassing. And that's why Obama is pushing better
language training for our schools. He is not expecting those of us
already out of school (which includes himself, dumnass) to suddenly
learn a language overnight.
