Watched it on ESPN Classic tonight. Two points:

1. It is proper that the only notable movie about high school football
took place in Western Pennsylvania.

2. Can you imagine how lame this movie would have been had it been set
in Texas?

Indeed. Small towns in Texas are actually worth living in compared to the
rust belt dungholes of western Pennsy. Making that story in Texas would have
made the entire plot unbelievable.

Seriously, if you took Ampere or Amboy or whatever the fsck that town
is in that movie, and made it Odessa High; and then made the archrivals
Permian; and then left the movie set in the 80s, but the late 80s, for
the oil bust; you'd pretty much have all the same ingredients. Well,
except that the new movie would have a lot of Spanish spoken in it.

The personal difference being that I would pick the arid and oily dunghole of
Odessa before I picked the humid and rusty dunghole of western pennsy.

I would pick Lea Thompson pretty much anywhere.
