Pop Chicks with Fantastic Pipes

most of these female pop singers are the beneficiaries of a lot of
post-processing after the tracks have been laid down. Unfortunately,
one of the purest voices (who happened to sing a lot of dreck) passed
away today. Another serious talent that has a dynamite natural voice
is Christina Aguilera, yet she sings a lot of schlock. I heard her
sing spur-of-the moment acapela on some talk show (think it was Leno)
and holy shit she was amazing

Over the last 40 years, I can think of only 4 female solo artists
whose recordings I actually bought:

#1 Karen Carpenter (technically not a solo-but I think of her that way)

#2 Carly Simon

#3 Carole King

#4 Sarah Brightman

and IMHO whatever dreck/schlock they did do was usually entertaining.

I get sick of all the vocal gymnastics and want to hear a song.

I am a bit countrified, to be sure, but my favorite is Mary Chapin
Carpenter.
