already set up him to fall. I think he will make a 55 yard one next week
then short on a 60 yard.

it, I'm sure that Kelly would like to have this distraction go away. Of
course, now that he owns the record, the distraction has already been

refer to Spurrier as the evil genius. Since S.C. beat
Georgia a few weeks ago he can't be all bad. I like
Clemson too, except when they play Georgia Tech
week after next, and after last year, no doubt revenge
is on their minds.

I like Spurrier, somehow. And I can only suppose that I must've found
a magical, subliminal way to totally discount his misanthropic affect
(which has been known to shrivel whole gardens). Maybe it's because,
to paraphrase Robert Mitchum in RYAN'S DAUGHTER, "I think he is a man

That doesn't mean that the ball would have been
kicked the same way from 70. What's the longest
that you know about? Kevin Butler kicked a 60.5
yard field goal for Georgia against Clemson in 1984.

Actually, the college record is 69 yards. Of course, most of the
really long ones were off the old 2 inch tees.
Some guy kicked a 65 yarder back in the 1890s--on a drop kick. How
the heck did he manage that?

Not at all. That's why I have him downing the ball on the one.
That record-breaking kick would have been good from at least ten yards
further, and maybe more, IIRC.
