Is this a sign of the economy or something? Because I really don't
see *ANY* reason why hawkins should be back......are they just too
cheap/not enough resources to negotiate a buyout?
Because really, not canning him would be far more embaressing than
canning him.....

Don't get it, either, and as an alum, it's disappointing. I like
Hawkins, but he clearly hasn't produced.

now word is starting to trickle out that it is all because of the
buyout and stuff......
I *sorta* get that, but it's not like you owe him weiss money left on
the deal(hell it was a 5 year deal and this is year 4).......
I remember after the last game against okstate, chris fowler and the
other guys pretty much said when hawkins was walking off the field
that he would definately not be back as CU coach.....it was just a
foregone conclusion thing.
And now the CU people drop this bombshell on us.........
they think they cant afford to fire him. What they dont realize is
that they cant *not* afford to fire him.

If money isn't the issue, than his is a real head-scratching move.
There is some talk of comparisons to Mike Stoops and the patience that
Arizona has shown him, but Stoops took over a tough program and has
made steady progress. The Colorado program, while difficult, was in
decent shape when Hawkins took over...and it's gotten worse.
Next year's schedule has non-conference games at Cal and home v.
Georgia...yikes.

Maybe that's why, like they don't want the new guy to have such a
tough start. Kinda like how Wisky's first year coach chickened out of
playing VT.

I agree he should be gone, but the program is such a wreck now it doesn't
matter if they bring him back for another year or fire him now, they won't
be contenders for the Big 12 North for 3-5 years. They will need almost an
entire recruit class to play through before they'll be able to draw the
needed players to be a 9-3 team.
Save the money and the embarassment of having your 1st year coach go 2-10.
Have Hawkins explain that record to his next suitor.
