After a very successful Sunday(1-1 but hit the live dog to be + for the day about 4-5 units), I come into Monday looking to build on that and tonight is a classic easy pick up.

The Packers are -500 on the moneyline, but you know what they say- "price
don't matter when you win because you don't pay it" lmao.....and so true that is.

This is one of those 'chaching' games. You come into it knowing, just knowing, the favorite is going to win. Will the cover the 11.5? My guess is more likely than not, but who cares.....just play the ML.

And you guys know how I usually play live dogs on the ML in the +200-+280 range a lot more than the ML favorites, but like I said....when it's a sure thing, who cares what the price is?

Play: Packers, -500, risking 25 units

I know nothing about sports betting. Is one unit a thousand dollars?

you wrote:
Cowboys moneyline, +150, risking 6 units (after the game had started? is that even allowed?)
Chiefs -3.5, risking 7 units

by my simple math you went 1-1 losing more units than you won so how is that successful and where did you get plus 4-5 units?

Because he won 1.5x per unit on the money line. So he comes out slightly ahead here, but still massively down.

thanks. So he ended up 2 units (won 9, lost 7). That would put him at -20 units by my count for the season. Tonight's 25 unit bet will either put him ahead by 5 or down by 45.

I don't really know what -500 means in terms of winning the bet. It probably pays off very well so a Packers win will put him well ahead, now that I think about it.

When it comes to money line betting, the lines with a plus symbol tell
you the amount of money you’d win on a $100 wager, while odds with the
minus sign indicate the amount you need to bet to win $100.

well think about it like this- it's a bad team(lions) at a supposed to be good team(packers). So I'm taking the supposed to be good team to win outright. So in this case -500 means they are favored, and look at the 500 as you have to risk 500 to win 100. Alternatively the lions were like +440, which means you can risk 100 to win 440.

So in this case, if I win I am +5 units for the night, and around -15 for the season. If I lose I am -25 for the night, and -45 for the season.

I don't play a lot of ML faves(not on a moneyline parlay) because they are so costly if they lose.

thanks. Those are good explanations.

No. If I understand it correctly, -500 means you bet $500 to win $100.
Of course, you get your wager back so you get a total of $600.

For a +250 wager, you bet $100 on the underdog and get back $350 if it
wins.

honestly XY, isn't it all the same once the lights are out and who can really tell whether the part of them you are really after is excellent or not until you try it out?

I had to explain this to the gf once and why some guys with hawt longterm gfs would cheat on them with a 'lesser' woman....she didn't like the explanation, but at least she understands now.

Depends on who's betting. Could be $5, usual parlance because of money lines is $100, but who knows?

All taken from the link:

What is a unit in sports betting?
A unit in sports betting is a measurement of the size of a given bet. It's mainly used because everyone's bankroll is different and a unit refers to the percentage of a bankroll. One unit is usually equal to one percent of a bankroll, though it's not the same for everyone.

For example, if your bankroll is $1,000, one unit would be $10 or 1%. In this situation, if someone puts three units on a bet, it would be a $30 bet.

I also read somewhere else that it's 1 percent of one's bankroll, which makes sense.
