Granted it was only a phone call violation of a restraining order,
about as harmless as you can get...then again, most basketball
recruits don't have restraining orders out on them.

The NCAA should split Div I into Div I-L(egal) and Div I-C(riminal).
Give Div I-L three brackets in the NCAA tournament, and put all the
Div I-C teams in their own damn bracket.

Dayum, UCONN (not Calhoun) expelled the kid. Not what I was
expecting. Seems a bit harsh; he called her 20 minutes after
recieving the order -- I'm guess he didn't read the whole
thing, and called to explain or ask to have it removed or
something.

He was dumb, sure, but expelled? Is UCONN taking over Calhoun's
role as disciplinarian? Do they no longer trust his judgement?
Or does UCONN normally expel kids for similar stuff?

it's the Marcus Williams effect - the school took heat because many
felt that Calhoun pressured the university to reinstate him after that
one semester suspension for the laptops. Many in UConn fan circles
saw this one coming...that the University was going to throw the book
at this kid.

All respect to Calhoun, the bestest coach in college BB. However, his
discipline of his players is in inverse proportion to their utility on the
court, viz the disparate treatment of the laptop thieves, one of whom, his
starting PG, he reinstated, whereas the other of whom, his not starting PG,
he suspended for the season.

yep, and Nate Miles is a victim of this because the University was
sick of being viewed as Calhoun's rug.

My guess is that if one student has a restraining order against
another student, and the one student knowingly violates the order,
expulsion is pretty much automatic.

Both Miles and the alleged victim were given a chance to testify separately
at Thursday's university hearing. According to the Student Conduct Code at
UConn, a hearing body can impose a number of sanctions, including a warning,
university probation, university suspension and expulsion. The administrative
hearing officers, assuming they followed procedures described in the conduct
code, relied on the following language in that book:

"When an Accused Student has been found 'Responsible' on any charge, the
Hearing Body shall review the student's academic transcript and student conduct
history, hear impact statements by both the Accused Student and Complaining
Party, and impose the appropriate sanction(s)."

Me, I figure the girl's claims of physical and sexual assault are the reason.
But those are still mere allegations at this point. I'm not sure if expulsion
is really warranted or not, so there might be some nip Calhoun in the bud
sentiment. Or not.

PR wise, it is easier to kick off the guy with the restraining order
than to keep him around. Don't underestimate that.

What's a scary thought? (Sorry, thot.) That your national championship hopes
rest on Price's knee? Or on his brain?

Good question. Does the one year wait period apply when you are
expelled instead of transferring? I figure that's the only issue.

heh, both. Bottom line is that they're in big trouble if he's not out
there (witness last years first round exit in the dance).
