This is a fantastic change. Team captains and Sectional Coordinators
across the country should be rejoicing.
I could either:
a) be happy about this development, or
b) be annoyed and snarky about how long it took.
After some thought...I'm choosing A. This is absolutely 100% awesome.
As someone that has had tons of trouble in the past dealing with paper
waivers, this is a massive step forward. It's going to make being a
member easier, it's going to make being a team captain easier, it is
going to make being a coach easier. Thank you, UPA.
Furthermore...I expect this took a lot of work. It might seem like a
simple change, but I bet if you dig a little bit you'll find that this
was non-trivial. Legal and web-technological steps are never easy or
cheap, in my experience.
For me, this is the first big benefit I've seen from the new people in
charge. It's ahead of schedule (even if it were to end up having some
bugs, which I'd expect from any new gizmo) and I am very pleased with
this.
Credit where it's due,
blw
well, since the process is easier than ever why not add a little 10
question survey to it?
colin never misses an opportunity to stroke the upa........even when
they accomplish shit they should have done YEARS AGO
i choose B............shocker

on actually WATCHING THIS SPORT.

budget JUST FROM DUES REVENUE AGAIN??????

how can it be ahead of schedule when B) was a legit option???

and critisism where its due too, right? if only you loyalists would
understand that they would get better faster if you laid off on
stroking them so much and critsized a little more. ya see, when ya
give em a pass constantly they get cvomplacent and THINK that their
efforts and actions are acceptable.........WHEN WE ALL KNOW THEY
ARENT.

ya know ben, ive always meant to ask.........whats up with the "l"?
do you refer to yourself as ben loyd wiggians all the time? just
seems a little pretentious to me. i mean, we all have a middle
name........ so why do you feel the need to constantly remind us of
yours?
> Massive, huge improvement to process. Thanks to all responsible.
and just think,,,,,,,all the loyalists would be showering the upa with
similar complements if they would have only beat the uoa to the punch
observer wise in providing "massive, huge improvements to the process.
which beckons the question, which "process" is more important and more
in need of the upas attention........registration or officiation?
like blw says "credit where its due"...........which would also imply
"critisism where its due". so am i within my right to critisize the
upa not doing things that we would otherwise credit them for?
so, AS FOR THE "MASSIVE, HUGE IMPROVEMENT TO THE (OFFICIATION)
PROCESS. THANKS TO ALL RESPONSIBLE," which i'm pretty sure includes
NO ONE THATS A UPA ADMINISTRATOR!!!!!!!!
so, as for officials in ultimate, THANKS FOR NUTHIN UPA!!!!!!!

Ben Wiggins is on the money with electronic waivers.
Having reluctantly dealt with faxxed player waivers for a
very long time (with Boston's www.BUDA.org, and the UPA),
the INSURANCE COMPANIES have been the roadblock to
electronic waivers signature, NOT the UPA, or the local
recreational leagues.

I have run a league also (Albany) and we have had electronic waivers
for a couple years now. Only a couple years you say? We've only had
insurance for a couple years and we've always had electronic
waivers.
To summarize, it seems like you are the one who doesn't know what he's
talking about but thanks for your addition to this thread.

If it could be one way or the other, should we simply assume that the
UPA preferred to handle tens of thousands of paper waivers per year
(for whatever unreasonable period of time they supposedly sat on their
hands), just to stick it to the membership?
I think I get J. Invencio's point. I'm not sure I get your (J Mac's)
points. My take-away from those posts is as follows, but I may be
very wrong:
Post 1 - the UPA should keep stride (to some extent?) with banks when
it comes to use of technology.
Post 2 - because the Albany league has had online waivers for two
years, that justifies an assumption that a) the UPA could have also
had online waivers, AND b) the UPA opted not to for no good reason.
To summarize, I am very confused here. I admittedly don't know what
I'm talking about, but my confusion here is on what you are talking
about.

Sorry, lack of details did cause confusion.
1. BUDA and UPA have been asking their insurance companies to allow
online waiver signatures, for years now.
2. I had not heard of any local league who'd been able to buy
insurance w/online waivers (this was asked at the UPA's Local
Organizers National Conference in San Fran in Feb 2009). First I'd
heard of Albany (or any local league) succeeding at this. I wish
Jeremy (or the current Albany officials) had publicized this
accomplishment earlier. Belated congrats!
3. Jeremy, which insurance carrier (or agent) does Albany have? And
what type of coverage, at what dollar amount coverage and at what cost
did Albany secure a couple years ago with the online waiver signature?
BTW, I doubt it's the same insurance company as UPA, Colin. But, I'm
happy to hear otherwise, Jeremy.
Thank you, in advance, for all the info.
