sockeye vs all stars: 15-8 or 9 for sockeye. Lots of exciting action/
individual plays but not much of a match for sockeye. Seeing crazy
frank lay out was a highlight for me

tfp vs sockeye: 15-11 or 12 for tfp. Shazaam started the game big
getting a few HUGE D's/breaks but gave them all back before half and a
few more right after and tfp never looked back.

I saw second half, approx, of both games. Also caught some vibes from
around the tournament in general. Specious information everywhere.
forthwith:

TFP defeated Shazam in mixed showcase. they won by 4 or 5, led almost
entire game if not the entire game. They looked more comfortable as a
team playing together than Shazam, if that's possible for a team like
Fisher Price, rumored not to practice and to have some sort of
revolving roster. But I confess to only third-hand info on that.

I saw Jewbilation rocking out the bling shirts in their race/religion
themed pre-quarter matchup with Downtown Brown and the Jews looked...
smooth. They ran very well and made up for lack of height with big ups
and quickness. Downtown Brown looked out of sorts a bit and never
really had a chance. In any case I wasn't surprised to see
Jewbiliation in the finals.

the other team, Drop Bull, was very well put together, probably by
McT. Good amount of Fury players, Sockeye peeps, a couple of Shazam
players and so on and so forth. I played against them in pool play
opening round and they crushed us. they were fast and competent and
dialed-in. No shock to see them win.

the finals itself was interesting -- the cap horn blew at 11-10 or
thereabouts, meaning it would be a game to 13, but everyone i know
thinks thats a terrible rule, being the finals after all and time not
being a factor anymore, at least not in the sense of keeping the
rounds in proper order for start times.

the crowd chanted "no time cap!" and "let them play" and evidently the
captains agreed as well after a bit of discussion and the time cap was
removed, but it was decided that the game would be hard-capped at 15
(ie, no old school epic "win by two"). players did have some planes to
catch after all, so i heard sayeth from the TD

Jewbs got a late break to hold onto a one-point lead and looked like
they woudl pull it out. I believe they had a few chances to score at
14-13, but did not, and of course they received the pull at 14s to
win, but a short-field turnover doomed them and Drop Bull converted.

i had never been to potlatch before. My very direct line of sources
tell me the reports of golf club carts getting trashed were WAY
overstated. Sure, a dozen or more peeps piled on to one of them,
including 3 on the roof, but i do not believe they were damaged.

As for the Red Hook party --- food was excellent, people were making
out in the bushes, the kegs ran out at the right time I guess, the
dancing was good but the dance venue terrible and the music canned,
there were TONS of like-looking and like-minded ultimate players
(profile: athletic-looking, drunk, white, young --- the geezers you
might see at other tournaments seemed to be missing from Potlatch or
simply outnumbered -- and generally like the cultimate cultists we
really are. Xtehn and Lucas, working for 5ive, were pimping and Xtehn
was using stencils and cans of spraypaint to tattoo partygoers.

Oh and again my sources tell me that someone tore up a sapling tree
and threw it at someone, and the cops got mad and tried to find the
person on a bus full of players. thats all i know on that end for the
Red Hook mishap. But i think this too seems to have been overstated by
namby-pamby RSD posters

I lost a nalgene. It never showed up in the lost and found. I think
someone stole it. All ultimate players are thieves and vandals, ipso
facto.

other notables: the team C3, aka the UPA administrators and board
members and so forth, were there. I heard the UPA ED Sandie played her
first point! C3 stands for the new UPA slogan, which was something
like "Compassion. Conservatism. Company." No, actually, i cant
remember. Character. Compassion. Crazy Hucks.

themed teams i saw: almost all of the teams were themed. it was nuts.
to wit:
ultimate warriors: dressed like the character "The Warrior" from that
old school wrestling video game
stella: pirates
101 damnasians: um, they wore purple satin smoking jackets, big goofy
white shades, some sort of red-tiara over hair-in-a-bun and flair
everywhere. the team was a collection of folks who had played in Asia
at some point
fetish: this vancouver team had a constantly working blender on the
sidelines churning out drinks for a team usually wearing fetish gear
like chains and leather straps and the like
short bus: no theme needed, karl doege the rsd champeen, was with them
kama sumo: sex and sumo wrestling!
interrobang: hammond wore a mullet the entire tournament yet i had not
the faintest clue what the "theme" of this team was, if they had one.
but that mullet wig was awesome
night bacon: they cooked bacon at night at the tentsites and guarded a
secret keg of beer
some team had a pole for pole dancing. gal from entropy punch rocked
that
chiquita banana had some banana-themed things going on
i saw a "titty twister" sign on a tent but never figured out what went
on in there.

i am missing about 30 more themed teams, my apologies in advance.

folks asked about my book "the greatest sport ever invented by man"
but i had only brought out 10 copies. if you would like to order one,
you can here: www.thegreatestsporteverinvented.com and i will send
them out to you

Gingervitis is gonna give Jewbiliation a run for their money next
year. If you know a red head that has the skills to make the
Firecrotch All-Stars send their contact info my way.

Not to be biased, but Darkhorse was rocking a my little pony theme as
always (did you see those hot wrist bands and Fiery purple jerseys?)
they all beat TFP on Saturday coming back from a 13-9 deficit, that
was pretty cool. All in all, my favorite team was clearly the Chico/
Oregon/random team all dressed up in old southern farm gettups with
banjos and guitars I believe called Huck Finn, either way, Potlatch
was great, the Volcano was awesome and Man Powered Submarine was truly
booze powerd submarine.

yeah, i forgot some of this stuff too:

Chulujuana Brothel; San Diego team. Guys dressed up like mexican
homies: bad fake mustaches, jean shorts that went below the knee and
bandannas that reflected their gang affiliation. All the girls were
dressed like prostitutes. Seeing a homie sky someone was fun to watch

there was a hand-made wooden flying saucer on the sidelines somewhere.
I peeked inside -- cans of coke, cheap vodka and a small TV. It was
exactly like a juvenile tree house.

the Volcano was pretty swell. I heard tell of threee of our virgin
princesses getting soused by the volcano run...

As the namby-pamby, I'm glad to hear that what I heard may have been
overstated. I heard about the ceiling at the dance venue from a
reliable source, but I guess I am indeed spreading rumors since I did
not witness it myself.

The TDs were the ones who complained about the golf cart vandalism at
the captains meeting, I would have to call that reliable. However, at
least one was till buzzing around on Sunday, so there you go.

Namby perhaps, but not Pamby

Some say The Greatest Sport Ever Invented is the most misunderstood
team flying disc field running sport on the planet, but I think it's
the Greatest Book Ever Written. If you haven't picked up a copy, get
two - one for yourself (it's a handy how-to guide for being a frisbee
player) and one for a special someone's Xmas present. Truly amazing.

indeed it existed. i played "i never" with the banana sideline
saturday night and i can positively confirm that one of your teammates
has masturbated on an airplane. see you next time, eh!?

Yes, Darkhorse...our team was Huck Finn and I'm glad we were your
favorite! We had a blast!!!!

Also, Huck Finn determined that we won the party. Why? Because we were
the last ones on the bus back to the fields. Not because we wanted to
be, but because an insane amount of people were pushing and shoving
their way on the buses so we thought, eh...why fight it?

Thanks, Potlatch TD's, for a grand time of Ultimate!

Ruthless...(for the rest of my peeps on the river...)
