Texas Showdown Tryouts

Showdown, the all-Texas competitive women's club team, is holding
tryouts for our fall roster on May 8-9 in Brenham, Texas. If you live
anywhere in Texas (or within commuting distance) or plan to move here
before the fall season, we hope that you will consider coming out for
the team. Showdown is a back-to-back Club Championships
Quarterfinalist, and last year finished 5th, qualifying for this
year's World Ultimate Club Championships in Prague.
At least one of our captains will likely be in attendance at the
following spring events, so if you are a college player (or a coach or
fan!) and you are interested in trying out, please let us know so that
we can watch you play and/or meet you.
* Women's College Centex- Austin, TX (March 27-28)
* Texas College Sectionals- Denton, TX (April 10-11)
* South College Regionals- TBD (May 1-2)
What we are looking for in players:
* Aggression (defensive and offensive)
* Defensive positioning / marking
* Throwing / catching ability
* Mark breaking ability
* Overall fitness
* Speed and agility
* Field awareness / timing
* Attitude / eagerness to improve
* Past playing experience
* Potential level of commitmen

We are also looking forward to hosting two tournaments this season:
- Texas Shootout (http://sites.google.com/site/shootout2010): a
fantastic pre-Worlds warmup with Fury, Riot, zG, Backhoe, and Rare Air
committed to attending thus far. This will be the most competitive
club tournament ever held in Austin!
- Philly Fusion (http://phillyfusion.wordpress.com): an innovative
collaboration with Boston Brute Squad that will serve as a competitive
pre-Regionals tuneup for top club teams as well as an awesome way for
college teams to introduce their rookies to ultimate. We'll have
showcase club games every round for the college players to watch, as
well as a Saturday afternoon skills clinic led by players on Showdown,
Brute Squad, and our friends on other elite club teams.
Showdown has players in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio and
our goal as competitors as well as members of the ultimate community
is to have an impact that is much bigger than the state of Texas. You

Tryouts will take place May 8-9 in Brenham, TX. We will provide
housing and transportation from Dallas, Austin, and Houston for anyone
who needs it.
Members of our fall roster will be expected to attend Boston Invite
with us, one more possible practice in June, and all of our fall
