Let's hear it.
Rob
The 6 women's teams attending will each get 5 pool play
games before the bracket play starts (semis, finals,
consolation games)
Seeds:
1. Fury
2. Riot
3. Showdown
4. Zeitgeist
5. Phoenix
6. Colorado
Fury, Riot, Showdown, and Zeitgeist have all finished
tryouts and have their rosters set in anticipation of
Worlds. Not sure where Phoenix and Colorado are in their
try-out process. Should be a great weekend!

6 - Placement Games
Sockeye is bringing a smaller squad that is currently being coached by
Skip as to how to deal with the heat that is mid-May Texas.
Weather is looking like t-storms, backup fields could be necessary.
Tourney is being played under WFDF rules, and includes a pre-tourney
Middle School then High School all star game on Friday evening
followed by a coed Showcase game with combined DW and Shootout teams.
Huge props to the Texas men and women for putting this together and
making it work for the teams involved. Lots and lots of effort have
gone into this tourney, and it's appreciated.

Stay tuned.

Fantastically run tourney with (surprisingly) great, hot
weather and highly spirited competitive play throughout.
On Saturday we (Sockeye) faced Clapham, Seuss, and Revolver
in that order.
Clapham began the weekend with the serious disadvantage of
jetlag from an international flight, and made some
uncharacteristic miscues that swayed the game in our favor.
They've got the height, throws and athleticism to contend
with most any team, but for some reason they weren't able to
connect as they usually do this weekend. Notably, the player
with the bleached blonde hair was making some huge plays for
them (as I heard, the whole weekend), and we fully expect to
see a more honed team come July on their side of the World.
This tourney will probably just fuel their fire at future
track workouts and practices between now and then.
Seuss was not as close a game, but was good for both teams
to work on their offensive and defensive sets and get
better.
To end Saturday, we faced a Revolver team that had just lost
a nail-biter to Doublewide. Having watched a decent portion
of the game, a few things were clear: first, nobody was
playing perfect ultimate, and second, most of the 50/50
balls, if not all, were going in Doublewide's favor. Whether
this was because of coincidence or a greater effort on
Doublewide's part is impossible to tell, but they were
coming up with a lot of crazy discs both on O and D. This
story would continue into our game against Revolver, with us
getting more than our fair share of swill, and with both us
and them making some big plays, and some boneheaded ones. In
the end, we too pulled out a double game point win after
their IO flick endzone shot floated and got D'd and we were
able to punch it in.
On Sunday we faced a Houston squad, followed by Doublewide.
Houston gave us a great game, with their tall lefty playing
especially well and really opening up the field for them on
O and giving our downfield defenders a hard time. We pulled
this one out eventually, but by now we were down to about 14
with injuries.
At this point, both DW and we were undefeated, and thus, our
pool play game was meaningless, so we negotiated a single
game to 19 that would be the finals.
I'd love to say that DW pulled this out with their depth and
heat preparation, but they played very well and really
earned it. Their O is efficient and multifaceted, using the
break well and hucking when appropriate to some very capable
receivers, and on D, Matt Randall is a constant threat to
bomb shots to the endzone and K Rich is a big, dangerous
target. I'm real psyched they got that bid to Worlds, as
they'll definitely prove they deserve it. This was a super
fun game, and congrats to DW on the win.
Overall, great tourney, highly competitive and spirited,
even with the crazy and sometimes confusing WFDF rules.
Thanks to all teams that attended, and we look forward to
seeing Revolver, Clapham, and Doublewide overseas.

Ya the WFDF rules were fun this weekend with my favorite
being that after the travel was called there was the mass
confusion of people on the sideline screaming "play-on" with
people on the field telling everyone to stop running because
something was called. This, of course, lead to several
uncontested passes to players whose defender was in the
dark.
My only problem was when I called a travel (I know how
typical) on a player from Revolver because he turned upfield
but he was immediately able to throw it to his receiver
thanks to the WFDF rules. I think there needs to be an
adjustment to this because it basically allows anyone to
change directions and continue play.
I forgot to point at where he should have gone back to, but
other than taking a few steps back it seems ineffective.
Maybe along with the marker/defender telling the thrower
where to relocate to, the thrower should have to
ground-check the disc as well.
I dunno just thinkin'

A curious former Cloud/Angi,
H-train
Not Black Angus. Maybe a couple of players from BA, some
cloud nine, some seuss players from the past couple years.
I believe the tall lefty would be Mackey of
LSU-Doublewide-Chewbacca. They also have Nick Turko (sp?)
who is a great tall handler.
From cloud 9 there is Michael "Flum" and Darren. I hope Im
not leaving anyone else out.
And Im pretty sure it was Nick "baby face" Turko who was
doing damage that game.
Stay tuned.
