Historically, for those of you who don't know, the 82e mold was the de facto
Ultimate disc (UPA approved) from around 1984 until around 1991 or so when
it was voted out by the slimmest of margins after Discraft 'donated'
$125,000 to the UPA (8-7, where 4 of the 8 individuals that voted for
Discraft were Discraft Distributors--don't quote me on this exact figure of
$125,000 but I think it's right).
Hmm, did anyone ever see anything of this 125 grand?
After the 82e got voted out, the criteria for UPA approval reads like a
description of an Ultrastar so now every disc made for Ultimate is a
Discraft knock-off.
The 82e is a little taller so therefore it catches more wind and floats more
(in lieu of flying a slightly longer distance). Seeing as Dischoops is a
finesse game and distance is not a factor, the superior disc was selected as
the official game disc.
In major league baseball, professionals use wooden bats, not aluminum. It's
not always about distance. The discraft ultrastar is a very forgiving disc
whereas it takes more skill to throw an 82e mold Frisbee and to get it to do
all of the things that it can.
The 165G brand on the Dischoops discs is only meant for a 'retro' look and
in reality the discs weigh in close to 173 grams (a negligible difference
from the Ultrastar).
These are very nice discs and fly great.

Fact.
last time someone was hospitalized from a disc nailing them and they
just wished it had been a wham-o? that's right.
I love it when Frank posts once saying he's sorry for creating such a
major rift between himself / dischoops and ultimate, and then later on
posts again widening it.
Jekyl and Hyde, meet Billy and Frank.
Robert Louis Stevenson only used one L when penning the good doctor's
name.
You should play more Ultimate and leave this Dischoops nonsense behind.

Attacks on the UPA's integrity aside, he may be onto something. The
Discraft-style disc in use for ultimate is more stable and more of a
distance disc than the older 82e and 80e Wham-O molds. For goaltimate
or Dischoops, you _do_ want a disc that curves easily because most of
the passes are short and it adds something to the game to be able to
bend it around a marker. I'm not prepared to label one "better" than
the other, but the games have different requirements for discs and so
it is appropriate that different discs are preferred.
I have no idea what you are talking about! I've made a killing here
selling 82Es as fishing boats. The raised dome lid makes more room for
the 'catch'....know what i mean?
