Observers from Teams with Byes

Maybe the UOA could host an event with too many teams....say, 10 for 4
fields...and have the teams with byes donate observers for the games
going on during their byes.
Train their 'volunteers' during the game....and get some folks
interested in observing that way.....while obtaining free staff
members from the attendees(of even paying the volunteers)

Mike, you don't scale very well.
In other words, you can only grow UOA so fast doing it a few observers
at a time.
Put together a short 5-10 minute video that has all your standards,
your hand signals, your guidelines and post the video for any self-
observed tournament. You'll have to give up on the facial hair for
now.
You've already vetted out your system to the point that it is ready
for mass dissemination.
Now let your concept grow organically by allowing the work that you've
done go viral.

Mike, there's really no reason that EVERY collegiate and open
tournament in the country beginning with Feb 1, 2010 couldn't be a UOA
'sanctioned' self-observed event. There will be bumps in the road but
those bumps will also be learning experiences. By April, the entire
collegiate series could be self-observed under the auspices of the
UOA.
All that UOA 'sanctioned' needs to mean is that the teams agree to
pilot the program outlined in your youTube video and provide
feedback. I'm sure you can provide a comprehensive UOA guideline in a
10 minute video.

ago...... Of course the uoa wasnt in existance then but the upa sure

typical SZ say somthing like
A "i herd of this cool new rule that i think would work pretty good
in ultimate"
B "oh yea, where did you here it"
A "I read it on rsd from some guy named the ulticritic"
B "aw man that guys a complete asshole, i wouldnt support ANYTHING he
says, hes just out to kill sotg and try to make gobs of money off
ultimate. no matter what he says i'm gonna go against it."
A "but i'm pretty sure he came up with some of the rules we already
play by".
B "either way, he's a dick and because of him i NEVER want to see
refs in ultimate".
is it really like that?

why dont you go with a 12 team format so you have 50% more teams than
fielsd. this way you dont have a TON of teams waiting around but more
than enough to observe the other games. Also this would strengthen
the working budget to where you could provide more perks or simply
reduce the entry fees. Now when you get ready to throw one of them
SUPER SIZED uoa events i would suggest including a PRO division,
solicit the 8 mens club quaterfinalist from previous nationals (or
even just the top 4) and give the teams on byes somthing entertaining
to do (watch great ultimate)..........cause it only takes two people
to ref a game.
