Teams aren't entirely set but here are some preliminary rankings.
After the big 4, the middle gets a bit shaky. Lower teams have few
results other than sectionals making ranking a bit difficult. Any
thoughts?

1. Ironside- 2-1 vs GOAT
2. GOAT- 3-0 vs Bodhi
3. Bodhi- 1-0-1 vs PoNY
4. PoNY- Bigger wins than Phoenix
5. Phoenix- 1-0 vs Replicants
6. Replicants- 1-0 vs Mephisto
7. Mephisto- 2-1 vs SoL
8. SoL- 1-0 vs DoG
9. DoG (if attending)- 1-0 vs Colt
10. Colt .45
11. Red Tide
12. Tufts Club
13. Red Circus
14. Chuck Wagon
15. TBD
16. TBD

Results aside, my gut feeling is SoL should be higher. Putting up 10
against Iron at sectionals tells me they're here to compete despite
some poor tournament showings this summer. Move them way up to #5.
Phoenix had decent results early in the season (beat us twice) but
they've apparently lost a few players for the fall (after Canadian
natties) and my gut feeling is they haven't gotten stronger since we
last saw them. Drop them to #6 (tho, by the score they did Goat close
at sectionals). Replicants at #7. After hearing some of the chatter,
I thought they'd give us a closer game though the final score, 15-5?,
doesn't tell the whole story. They got a few guys who can hang with
the top teams but making no-look dumps into the defender's hands isn't
going to cut it at this level. They'll play SOL and Phoenix close,
maybe beat them, but won't touch the top four at regionals. Mephisto
at #8--beat Phoenix for Canadian nationals but have to be below
Replicants. Colt at #9. See result against Replicants. DoG of
course isn't playing open and #'s 10-16 are pretty much arbitrary (no
offense).
ALso wanted to say that the sweetest bid at sectionals was not from an
open player but a masters guy in a game against us. The kind of full-
extension and high layout with the defender right there that you play
this game for. One on the sickest grabs I've seen at college or open
level and I'm never dissing masters again.
Apart from NW, the NE is going to have the toughest Sunday shootout at
regionals. Somebody's going home.

I really hope PoNY makes it, time for NYC to get a team in the
Nationals again. Bodhi looks like they are having a real good season
though.

why did you dis masters ultimate (what were the reasons against?)? in
double game point in pool play, one of our elders (50?) on the mixed
team i am on got a huge layout d, baiting the young one for the cut
and then waist high diving through the disc to get the turn that led
to the win.

Woa. No dis intended. All I'm saying is you don't expect to see
plays like that coming from older players. They might have the will
but not the way. just a function of age in any sport. This guy had
the will and the way despite being covered by one of our quickest guys
and I'm only saying: respect to him. (and to masters players
everywhere).

Does anyone else feel that Patrick Swayze's untimely passing may
perhaps be a poor omen for Bodhi?

They made nationals in 2008...

Whoops, thanks. I guess I meant it would be good if NYC had a team
that made some noise in the Nationals (IMO).

>Mephisto at #8--beat Phoenix for Canadian nationals but have to be below

I'm not sure that the argument that one team "has to be below" another
team is necessarily valid for the 5 teams in the 4-8 slot because Pony
is 1-2 against Phoenix so should be ranked behind them... but Phoenix
is 0-1 against Sons so should be ranked behind them... but Sons are
1-2 against Mephisto so should be ranked behind them... but Mephisto
is 0-2 against Replicants so should be ranked behind them... but
Replicants are 0-2 against Pony so...

The only rule that has to apply is Replicants has to be behind Pony
because of Sectional results.

I would rank 4-8 as
4) Pony
5) Phoenix
6) Mephisto
7) Sons of Liberty
8) Replicants

Let the teams start their self-promotion campaigns...

Someone ought to put together a list of all the tournaments that NE
teams attended and how they performed. WMO, Cazenovia, Boston Invite,
NY Invite, Canadian Nationals, plus ones in other regions.

Is anyone going to bump Boston or GOAT? Yes Bodhi has had a great
season, but they have not been able to pull out victories against
Ironside or GOAT at all this season. PoNY has yet to even beat Bodhi
so it would have to be one hell of an effort from those boys to take
down either of the top 2. I see Bodhi and PoNY battling for that third
place spot and I really dont see anyone else having a shot. SoL may
have put up points on Ironside at sectionals final, but does anyone
really think Ironside was playing starters or all that hard at that
point? They had no need to and Sons had everything to play for.
Certainly they are getting better and may be able to take 5th but no
way they make nationals... maybe if theyd staid as Gunslingers or at
least kept those glorious jerseys...

Another thread mentioned that Goat had two significant late season
pick-ups. Anyone have the scoop on that?

Derek Alexander and Mark Lloyd. I know both have played with GOAT in
the past, but did not this summer (Alexander was playing with Team
Canada and Lloyd was home in Winnipeg with General Strike). That's a
scary o-line they can throw out there; one that rivals any that will
be in Sarasota.

Homrbush,

This year we have also picked up two fantastic european players.....

Joel Hogberg from Skogs and the 2008 WUGC Swedish Open Team (also
played with GOAT for part of the summer) and David Pichler from
Chevron Action Flash and the 2009 UK world games team/2008 WUGC UK
open team. Bringing our total european contingent to 3 too many in my
opinion. They are the ones to be blamed for our ridiculous green&pink
jerseys which rival Ring's for the most hideous sublimated jerseys
this summer.

Just thought they deserve a nod as well if you are talking about new
faces

by the way i was joking about having too many euros. you can never
have too many euros.

does anyone know of any other dudes coming over to play the series. i
know Jam has one dude, i think his name is Lorenz coming over to play
nationals. he is a great player

wonder if more teams will start to tap the talent thats across the
ocean or in places like australia/japan/south america?

lorenz (ambidextrous hucker from switzerland) killed a JAM-lead team
in the paganello finals this year, that's probably how/why they
recruited him. the old "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" technique.

joel hogberg was getting props as one of europe's best young players,
if i recall correctly.

Hey,

i just saw the most recent and unfinalized schedule for regionals and
it looks like another team dropped out and they are looking for a
replacement. I was just wondering how they choose which pool gets to
have 3 teams as opposed to 4. Why does bodhi have to play 2 pool play
games when the honour seems like it should at least go to the 1 seed
ironside. Do the games in pool C go to the same score as those in
pools A, B & D? Is this balanced out so that all teams face the same
amount of competition so that one team doesnt get an unfair advantage?
Just asking out of ignorance and curiosity. Im sure someone knows how
it all works

Mooney,

If you have 10 minutes of your life to waste (and since you're on
rsd....) and manage to navigate the terribly un-user friendly upa
website, you can eventually find a formats manual. It pretty much has
every answer to every format of a tourney with however many teams are
in the tourney and if they are advancing. You could search, or, you
could try clicking here: http://upa.org/files/Format%20Manual%20Version_4.3%20_7.1.08.pdf
and see if that works. I think pool C (the bodhi pool) has 3,6,9, when
Pool A would have 1,8,11,14, Pool B has 2, 7, 12,13 and Pool D has
4,5,10,15

....Actually, after I got mad about not being able to find it without
more than three wrong clicks of where I thought it would be, I see now
if you would click on the small navigation buttons at the top that you
can find it by clicking the coordinators button. I get really mad
before my morning coffee though.

I only mentioned the fall additions, as they (theoretically would add
to GOAT's summer results). Do you guys really have green and pink
jerseys? You guys easily had the sweetest ones around, why mess with
it? :)

Good luck this weekend, and crush your region!

It will be exciting with 3 Canadian teams having legitimate chances at
titles this year.

sarasota should be extra eyeball-scorching this year, what with
kitchen-sink jersey designs and all.
