With all the top ten lists going up over the holidays, I've decided to
jump on the bandwagon and create a top ten Clip of the Day list. So if
you've seen a COTD in the past that you think deserves to be on this
list please nominate it here. I will then put up an official poll on
the UV site to decide the final winners in the coming weeks. Along the
way I'll pull up as many of the nominations as possible, along with a
few personal favorites from the archives.

Chelsea Putnam's layout
Jimmy Chu's grab

And that chest high layout that's in the '07 TiV montage
which was a COTD I believe.

This was always my favorite Kershner clip. Partly because I was there.
Partly because of the "let them play!" chants from the crowd that
followed. Partly because of the heart it takes to score on a hard cap
point when you can't win the game. 'zona definitely won the hearts and
minds that year.

Drew out.

Thanks for posting your favorites. I've got several hundred COTDs that
are not currently in the archive which I hope to get up in the coming
months. One of my personal favorites is from MLU 2006 when Sean McCall
lays out for a D in the back of the endzone and crashes into the
plastic garbage can full of empties, which made for good sound
effects. I'm gonna try to get that one up today.

Keep the nominations coming. Test your UV memory and post it if you
remember it.

That is another personal favorite. He gets absolutely squashed by Alex
Hughes but holds on for the catch.

Yes the line is out but did you see the line move? That's a portafield

look at it again from the full field live-action view - the line
moves, you can clearly see it. I think because he landed on the line
& didn't drag his foot, the line moved/tilted enough to change the
reflection of sunlight from the white tape but didn't dramatically
displace position as it would if he dragged his foot. It's still a
great catch and amazing body control to toe the line.

Rob

unread,
Jan 12, 2010, 12:36:36 PM1/12/10

I still think the line only moves once his toe slides forward, not
when he puts it down, but we can agree to disagree on that. I do agree
with you that this was a display of great body control though.

I'm pretty sure it was a COTD at one point.

Arizona at TiV a couple of years back. Sick layout right
towards the camera in the back of the endzone in front of a
couple defenders.

This is a good one. It's now up.

My latest nomination. A fully extended layout catch by Alex Hughes

I'm having some technical issues posting COTDs at the moment but I'll
figure it out soon enough. In the mean time get your nominations in
and I'll get them up asap.

If it's the same play I'm thinking of, the defender was Dave Fumo and
the D was against Texas in the last round of pool play in Boulder.

I don't think this made it up yet. Sweet layout D by Grant Z-something
of Wisconsin, possibly with his shorts coming off?

Stanford (Brown) Invite against Georgia? 2005?

Morgan has some great plays caught on tape from that tournament as
well I believe.

How about all those little kid ones? Where are they now?

I was trying to post this earlier in the week but that's when the tech
issues started. I'll have a bunch going next week if I can't get this
sorted out today.

I can remember a great COTD of a layout catch by Owen Blain
(must have been 2005 (when he was playing for mothership?)

Just posted a clip from College NW Regionals 2005. It's a catch (going
away) by Oscar Pottinger with Mark Sherwood on his heals. It's tough
to appreciate the difficulty of this catch without looking at it frame
by frame, but if you do you'll see Oscar go up quite early, hang in
the air, and then pull down the wet disc with his left hand. Sherwood
looks like he appreciated it.

I'll be accepting nominations till the end of February, then I'll
begin the voting process.

Canadian Nats 05. Joey Hussein of the Nomads lays out for the game
winner (right in front of the camera) vs Phoenix.

Check it out.

Any teams in particular?

i was thinking maybe some of my ring teammates like KP
(shorter black fella that plays with nc state) and also
Thomas Ward (#7), but that might just be me pumping up my
teammates. i bet there are also some sweet ones of chain and
doublewide. the doublewide guys had a good crew and were
flying around everywhere when we were playing them. I
understand it is tough to be everywhere being only one
person and it seems like you spend more time on the west
coast and all. I didn't mean to come off as unappreciative
because what you are doing Rob is awesome! it seems like
the southeast is getting stronger every year with more and
more really good players coming to the area.

by the way, are you going to be at the mardi gras tourney
this weekend? If so, you gotta come check out some of the
club open division that will be at the other site with the
college women. there is going to be a pretty sweet team
decked out in bball jerseys I hear that will be going for a
weekend-long highlight real nba jam style!

Hey Stephen, no I will not be at Mardi Gras this weekend. I've been
there twice (once as a club player in 04 and once to film college in
05) and had a great time but it's getting harder as my family grows.

Being located in the NW has definitely left my video archive a little
NW heavy, but it also had something to do with the fact that it was
consistently NW teams that were playing in the big games for most of
the past 5 years. That's changing now and I did get some great Chain
highlights from Sarasota this year. I'm hoping to do the same in
Prague.

I'll see if I don't have some SE clips from my COTD archive.

Shouldn't that be spelled "scoober?" Written the way you have it
makes me want to pronounce it like "rubber."
