Whether I liked it or not is not the point. The point is
Brodie has figured out aspects of ultimate that appeal to
the masses i.e. the people who still associate ultimate with
WHAMO and think watching dogs catch discs is entertaining.
Whether he can turn that love of watching people throw discs
into garbage cans or catching discs while jumping out of
speed boats into actually watching ultimate is another
story, but he's certainly farther along than USAU is based
on his numbers.

I think the 100,000+ followers on youtube shows that there's
a lot more interest in ultimate than people realize, and
that if it could actually get on TV with a legitimate format
and production quality it could catch fire.

Well if you have a different point to make then don't use my
quote in your response. My point was that it was boring
hence I did not enjoy it.

Did you enjoy it?

I think that shows there's more interest in throwing
frisbees into trashcans than interest in Ultimate. Wouldn't
anyone who enjoys these videos be more inclined to play disc
golf (basically what these videos are) than a team-based
sport (which these videos are not)?

Dude Perfect has 219,522 subscribers. Would you argue they
increase the interest in basketball (another team sport)? I
doubt it. These videos make people want to do one thing:
throw things into baskets from far away (which I really
enjoy).

Now if his Ultimate videos were getting this kind of hype,
you could say "there's a lot more interest in ultimate" and
"TV with a legitimate format", etc. But frisbees in
trashcans? Not seeing it.

So...did you enjoy this video?

ummm. numbers are everything in marketing. Justin Bieber
is one rich ass mofo because he is marketed, well, to the
millions (billions?) of people who like what he does. he is
rich and has made other people rich because of the numbers.
the millions of screaming girls who buy his albums, go to
his concerts and love his hair. he's probably not too
worried about the several thousand counter culture, elitist
hippy ultimate frisbee players because you can almost
guarantee that none of them are going to buy his albums or
his concert tickets unless they do so, grudgingly, for thier
tweenage daughters.

Brodie has all those hits because he knows how to market
what he does to the people who want to watch what he does.
no one is suggesting that Brodie take over ultimate and
design the sport to be popular. i think the idea is that
Brodie, or someone else, take over the "marketing" aspect of
ultimate to try to reach out and give it some more exposure.

i know that there is a segment of the ultimate community
that wants it to stay counter culture and not get popular
because this will somehow ruin it. surely the same groups
of people existed in skateboarding, and snowboarding, and
motocross, and any other sport on the X games, and some
others. but those groups of people lost, the sports were
marketed and now there isn't a kid anywhere in america who
didn't at one time want a skateboard, or a snowboard, or a
__________, so they could do the cool stuff that some cool
guy or gal did on some cool televised competition. the
sport cashes in on the tv money, the merchandise money, the
tickets to the show money and the sport wins because it now
has lots and lots of money to fund it's youth projects and
championship events and everything in between.

in the words of the mighty Joe Dirt: "It's not what you
like. It's what the consumer likes."

No Problem. Look for more videos promoting the sport.
