The World Wide Leader finds another fringe "sport" that seems to have
burst past our beloved game in notoriety:

This is soooo awesome. Those players with the green hair give
Ultimate players a run for their money.

That was pretty awesome. Too bad they are using those crappy fields of
vegas. Perfect for kickball, shitty for ultimate.

kickball is a game. Ultimate is a sport.

Ultimate is NOT a sport. It's a game. A game without refs. A game
without enforcement. A game with inconsistent, wiggly and arbitrary
boundaries.

call me when they're past a little article. when they're on top ten
plays, or cstv, or can name more than three countries putting up
decent leagues.

then somebody might care.

You're not serious.

The whole piece was a goof. A goof piece on a goofy game we played in
grade school gets more press than Ultimate Frisbay.

It did look an awful lot like an Ultimate tournament. Green hair.
Killer bees. Stupid team names. Guys wearing dresses (oh wait, even
these guys wouldn't stoop that low).

Meh, green hair isn't hurting anybody. Looks like they're having fun
out there, more power to 'em. Most of sport the world round isn't
"elite," it's folks kicking back and having some fun in their free
time.

Speaking of green hair, Franky....

Why so serious...? =)

Ooh semantics, sounds fun! What about golf? XGames? Competitive
poker?

Just because the game-sport dividing line hasn't been successfully
settled in the first 8 quadrillion internet threads on the matter
doesn't mean that this one will fail too. Perhaps our persistence
will be rewarded.

burst past???? do you really think that ultimate ever really caught
up to kickball in participation (and or, in this case,
professionalism)

seems to me like that particular presentation showed ulti and kickball
to be pretty identical.......sport/game status-wise that is. I mean
those peole could have been playing ultimate and no one would be any
wiser. Not only that but from the looks of it it seemed like the
level of athletisism wias very identical to ultimates level too. BUT
i though that the special part of ultimate, with all the sotg
propaganda and all, was that keeping ulti a game IS part of what makes
it special.

Heres the thing though.......for all you people, like brandon, that
want to try and belittle kickballs "sport" status......THIS is how the
rest of the world looks at ultimate when they see THAT sport being
played..........

1) priamarily by white people

2) often in a coed fashion

3) often with wierd uniforms, zainie accessories (green wig) with
wierd sexually oriented team names.

4) WITHOUT refs.

5) that puts heavy emphisis on the social and "fun" aspect of the
sport.

........as well. so really you ultimate players should realize that
you are looking into a mirror in some repects when watching this
clip, Of course there are probably many ways that this league has
already surpassed ulti in some aspects of professionalism

again......the same things could be said about ulti. Call me when
ulti gets refs, gets hsaa varsity status, has a professional league
featuring just its top players. Its ALLLLLLLL relitive there bww.
But you cant deny, from watching this clip, that the sideline vibe and
atmousphere(amoungst other things) were eerily similar to ultimates.
Its hard to grasp that the things that we critisize others/other
sports for are simply the things we dont like about ourselves/our
sport.

actually, it didnt look like they were using any. i'm sure they got
some kind of minimalistic/sotg thing going on just like ulti. maybe
ultimate should network with kick ball (and other gay, refless coed
sports) and put on some big NO REFS sporting event.
